Has anyone tried Tae Kwon Do? A friend has just started taking lessons, and he loves it, and asked me to join him. I assume it's more like balance and strenght training than aerobic exercise, but I want to try it. I remember reading that someone on this forum competed in it , so I guess maybe you coul help me. What shold I expect? I'm not terribly overweight (I'm so proud of myself, yesterday the scale said I'm back in the normal range :D), but I'm in bad shape. Can I still do it? I don't want to show up there completely clueless. I've checked some special TKD forums/sites but thay were not newbie-friendly- lots of korean expressions, advanced jumps/ kicks... Can anyone tell me sth about the basics- how difficult it is to learn them, how strenuous it is for girls etc 10x

I can give you a lot of info on it. I am the one that posted about competing in it. Tae Kwon Do Is great excersize. I dont know about diffrent schools but mine made the class into an aerobic workout as well as a strength and balance training. Dont worry they wont make you do the hard stuff until they teach you the basics. I found that the basics were not that hard to learn. The hard part was building up the endurence. The classes were a bit tirering at first. They start with the basic punches and kicks and teach you how to do them without injuring yourself. When they feel that you are ready then they start teaching advance stuff, But that normaly takes quite some time. The best part for me was the friends that i made. You asked about how strenuous is it for girls, well being a girl i can say that I found that it was not that bad. I think both boys and girls go through the same amount of aching muscles. I honestly Love Tae Kwon Do and recomend that everyone should give it a shot. I know that it is not for everybody but i don not think you will know if it is not for you unless you give it a fair chance. I hope that you do decided top give it a shot. If you do let me know. Even though i am not in it now do to an accident i can still give advice. I plan on getting the OK from my doc to go back with in a year.
