About time. I hope that the other major chains phase out there largest sizes as well. The american people need to learn about the right serving sizes. I dont eat fast food too often when i do get it i order a kids meal. All the adult sizes are too large.
here is another interesting article. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=541&ncid=541&e=1&u=/ap/20040304/ap_on_he_me/fit_obesity_income_2 all of these studies that they are doing aren't saying anything good about being heavy.
Before I started dieting, I'd always Super-Size. For a mere 20 cents (or so), one would get a much larger drink and larger fries! It seemed worth the $$ to me. However, since I started dieting, the only "fast food" place I've gone to is SubWay - and even then, all I have is their turkey on wheat, no cheese or mayo, sub. A Super-Size drink, if it's diet, is not so bad. That's what I usually had. However, if one has regular soda, that could be about 300 calories just in the soda! 8O And while eating potatoes is O.K., having them deep-fried is not. Therefore, I'm glad to see these types of options disappear. However, sometimes I think we are being a bit too hard on McD's. Back in the 90's, when there was another health craze (this time, low-fat), McDonald's brought out a line of very healthy food. They had salads, chicken, lower fat hamburgers, etc. The result? They were removed from the menu due to the fact that no one was ordering them! That is, when people went to McDonald's, they WANTED high-fat foods. Now, a decade later, those same customers have grown fat from eating all that junk - and they blame McDonald's for giving them what they wanted! :x Makes little sense to me...
maybe it wasn't as "en vogue" back then.. now that obesity has reached epidemic levels, maybe it's more important to them as a corporation?
[quote:beb1f1f3b1="PixieChic"]maybe it wasn't as "en vogue" back then.. now that obesity has reached epidemic levels, maybe it's more important to them as a corporation?[/quote:beb1f1f3b1] But McDonald's tried this once before - so it was important to them back then as a corporation too. It was the customers who said "no". Now, once again McDonald's is bowing to customers' demands. That's good. However, I wonder if customers will really be satisfied. Will customers start demanding more food (Super Size) - and more unhealthy food - again? Regardless, I'm glad this is being done. People don't need to Super Size anything. Like I wrote above, I Super Sized my orders - and it helped me reach 300 pounds! 8O
It's the psychology of SuperSizing which is bad. It's probably a very good thing they're dumping it. Portion sizes are out of control.
i can't stand mcdonalds. i was forced to eat a couple sausage mcmuffins with egg and man that stuff sat in my stomach like a rock! i mean chicken isn't orange but mcnuggets are? what the heck is going on?
I used to love McDonald's as a kid. But the only thing I would eat from there was the Big Mac. Now they have those chicken wraps and side salads. So when me and Hubby take the kids there now, that's what I order. I usually only get two wraps, but sometimes I get a wrap and a salad, no dressing of course. And I have water with it. My kids are even starting to order the wraps. Which isn't a bad choice for a 6 and 7 seven year old.
It's nice to see that some places are trending towards offering healthier items. the fact that your kids like it too is a bonus.
Don't be fooled... It is ALWAYS about the money in business. Demand has much to do with it.. but the bottom line is ALWAYS what they will be looking at. Think about it.. they cut out supersize and it makes them look great in the eyes of America as if they care about the people and not the money. When in reality it is a double edged sword that says.. hey america we love you and at the same time, if you want more fries you'll have to pay more than 39 cents a crack.. something more along the lines of 1.10 ~smirks~ Oh yeah and how about this one?? They "give away" $15,000,000.00 to some lucky folks just for walking in the door and they look great to America.. when in reality it is part of a court settlement that they are fulfilling. ~shakes his head~ It is ALWAYS about the money to those of the world.
