I tried the low-calorie diet. Had only 600 cal's or less and nothing happened! Plus you get way too hungry and I eat like a horse. But I have an excuse for being hungry all the time!

i disagree. i am a fan of low cal. of course you're hungry though! because you're eating less. if you eat 600 calories a day i'm pretty sure you would have seen some sort of result.

I actually recommend that you eat MORE than 600 calories a day. That's a VERY small amount - too small. This could be a reason why you aren't seeing results (or results as quickly as you would like). When you eat too little, our body will start conserving fat (as it thinks it is in an "starvation mode"). My advice is to increase your calories to 1000-1500/day. And then add in exercise - at least 20 minutes 3x a week.

extremism is rarely the answer. in all things, moderation.

what ahppens if you have been eating a low calorie 1000-1500/day for overa year and find it is now hard to even make it to 1000 a day??

they always recommend you eat 3 times a day to keep the metabolism going. you can eat 3 small meals.

BigBoy I try but I am getting to the point that food repulses me I dont find it hard to find time to eat its getting the food in my mouth IF I wasnty still 303 I would be afraid that I was aneroxic but that is not possible and the worst part is that I tyend not to eat until my sugar level drops really low and I have the shakes I keep tellingmyself that I need to eat more but I just cant this sucks for me cause I have 2 teens at home I need to cook for..... hi ladydraggin.. you have to be very careful that you eat. 600 calories is going to end you up in a hospital. have you ever discussed this with your doctor? he may really be able to help you.. and as for your kids, teaching them bad habits won't help them. please reconsider the approach that you are taking towards losing weight, you have to make sure that you are doing it safe.

Pixie: I copied what I posted on another list about this subject. (see below) Eating low low calorie diets is extremly dangerous! When I told the "diet company" about me feeling like I was going to pass out when I stood up they told me to have 1 additional orange a day. I think I was "allowed" 2 fruit a day. ... Posted: Wed Feb 25, 2004 3:22 am Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had to jump in here. You really have to be careful in eating 1 meal a day. I was on a diet once upon a time. Through a crazy "diet company". I was on 700 calories a day. I was monitored 4 times a week. I lost 55 lbs in less than 3 months, but at the same time my hair started falling out, my skin was losing it's color, I was feeling like I was going to pass out everytime I stood up. It's not healthy to starve your body. I was eating most of my calories in 2 meals. When I finally went to see my doctor he told me the only good thing I was doing was making the casket lighter for my family to carry. Scared me on the spot. The thing about the diet I was on was they were not teaching me how to eat for the rest of my life. It was only a quick fix. Thats not what we're after. We have to eat healthy and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Listen to your body, ask your doctor for advice. Don't end up like I did. EllieFunt

thanks for reposting that info, ellie. it's funny that we as people aren't really concerned that much about calories, and how many we eat in a day, until we decide to lose weight. when we decide to lose weight, everything changes. it doesn't matter that we ate all the calories we wanted and gained 50 pounds. nobody was paying attention to calories then. it didn't matter. but when you decide to lose weight, everything changes. and we get obsessed with the scale, or calorie counting, or carb counting or whatever. extrememly low calories isn't safe. ..imho.

you definitely have to eat enough so that your liver and other organs function properly. you have to strike a balance.

I've always heard that if you multiply your current weight by 10 that is the amount of calories you can eat to lose weight and if you multiply your weight by 15 that is the amount of calories to maintain your weight.

I found that after inially going from over 350-60 to 303 I stopped losing right b4 the holidays and so I said screw it over the holidays as long as I didnt gain well I went up to about 1500 cal a day on about 3-4 daysa week and guess what I started losing again and I NOW WEIGH 294!! and its gong down weekly so consider this

I agree with other posters, I have heard it is NEVER wise to drop below 900-1000 cals with out a doctors approval. Plus dropping down to 600 cals will put your body into starvation mode, where you metabolism will slow, and your body will try to store its limited calories as fat. Best bet is to limit your cal intake (I try to stay from between 800-1500) and increase your activity level. Plus many small meals in a day will keep your metabolism going... Congrats on the weight loss though! :D and as you saw, you could actually eat more, and lose more once you found a level where your body was more efficent.

Lady D[/quote:77a28ce227] Hi, I am new here but would like to respond to this thread... The fact that food repulses you and you think you don't have anorexia because of your weight... One, no you would never be classified as and anorexic with your weight however, you could be as ednos(eating disorder not otherwise specified). The thing is that you should be eating more calories, there is no way you are reaching your nutrional goals a day.. If you continue to eat like this and continue those feelings this will become more and more of an issue and very dangerous as well.. You will find yourself in the hospital... You really need to talk to your Dr. now while you can.. I am not trying to scare you but I really do know what I am talking about when I say this and don't want you to go through that.... To me it sounds like you are getting and already experiencing what an anorexic feels and let me tell you that is not a good thing... Food is not suppose to be the enemy we all just need to learn how to balance it out and control it in a healthy manner... I do think you may have anorexia tendacies rather you are 300 or not that is really not the issue at this point it is your state of mind that I am concerned about and if you don't get that right you are heading down a road that will be much harder to change... Please, go to a Dr. explain to him your feelings in great detail... Just make sure he/she does know about ED's... Alot of anorexic's were overweight in the beginning and then it becomes an obsession that will destroy your whole life and the ones who cares for you... Having an ED is more then your weight it is and has alot to do with your mind and how you view things.. Your weight is usually a symptom.. I hope this is making sense to you.... This is serious, please go up to 1500 atleast and maybe just take it step by step.. The first week go up 100 cals, 2nd week another 100 cals.. Increase your exercise a tad by walking.. You may gain a little the first week and possibly the second but after that your metabolism will start returning to normal even as you are going up on your cals to reach 1500-1800 cals and remain there until you lose a sufficient amt. of weight then work back down to 12-1500 cals till you lose or reach your goal.. Remember to exercise atleast start off at 10 mins. a day and work your way up and do it 3--5 days a week... Please, let me know how you are doing...

lady, all your accomplishing by eating only 600 cals a day is slowing down your metabolism and making yourself feel awful - you're hurting yourself! Please don't do it that way! you can eat 1000 - 1500 cals a day and still be on a low -calorie diet, and lose weight and feel better! Did you ever try six small meals a day and are you incoporating a lot of fruits and veggies?

I have since that post been able to increase my calorie intake I am once again eating at the least 1000 And at the most about 1500 i am still losing I guess it was just aperiod I was going through when I posted this thread. On days I feel like a beached whale I eat less and drink tons more i hope to increase my activity this summer by walking and swimming more but I am limited by disability. I started my new lifestyle on March 1 of 2003 at the time I was 350+ the scales couldnt weigh me but I am sure I was at least 365 or perhaps more. I quit smoking may 6th of the same year. Since march 1 2003 I have eliminated 90% of fats out of my diet, 90% of the sugar I use splenda for everything, and I rarely get any thing with high cholestrol I have cured the "fatty liver" I had( this condition makes your liver as bad as that of a heavy drinker) I have lowered my cholestrol to with in normal limits I have managed to get my diabetes under control and maintain a steadier sugar level through out the day I avoid bread as much as I can electing to use pepper halves or lettuce for my sandwiches. I have benn able to give up the cane I used to walk. I have also gone form the 350+ to 294 last time I was weighed (last month) but I thank all of you for your advice and support I hope to get down to the weight I was when I got pregnant with my 1st child who is now 23 that is about 240-250 I know that is still obese but its a lot less obese than 350+ keep the faith poeple it takes a long time to lose it like it took to gain it but its worth it.and if you do it slow they say that it will last longer than quick loss byes LadyD

WOW! that is great! Good for you!
