I am participating in the "Wild Scallion" Race here in Chicago this October. It is a 3 person triathalon and I will be doing the bicycle part of the race. The biking part is 30 kilometers. 8O So, I need some training help. Here is my current stats! I have lost 20 lbs. since Thanksgiving and have also lost all the pain I was experiencing in my knees! I would like to lose another 20 - 30 lbs. I do have a bike, not a "urban adventure bike" but it will do for training, and have access to great trails. Any help is greatly appreciated, since this is so new to me. I'm pretty excited and nervous at the same time. I've never done anything like this. Our team is not looking to win only finish the race! Wish us luck! In case anyone is interested: http://www.urbanadventureracing.com/scallion/ Ellie

wow ellie! that sounds like quite a cool deal to thing. do you have a membership to a fitness club at all?

Not yet. I have a great Y 6 blocks from my house. I need to sit down with my hubby and see if this is in our budget. I'm willing to make other sacrifices to make this work for me (financially). Ellie

ellie that seems like a great thing to do! you have more "guts" than i do :) it will challenge you to train, if nothing else! are you doing anything special to train right now?

We've just recently acquired our 3rd team member, we weren't sure we were going to do this until Feb. 7th. So now that we're complete I really need to get going. I am an avid walker, I can walk forever, previous to having kids I was a biker - I would rather take my bike than my car. We will do everything together, except I get to do the 20 kilo. of the biking which right now is pretty scary. Especially when they don't close any of the streets of Chicago off and you have to look out for traffic! As soon as our snow thaws I will drag my bike out and start going. I will have to tow my trailer with one kiddie behind, should be good training! 30 lb. trailer + 37 lb. kid plus wind risistance = good workout? EllieFunt

You sound like you're well on your way. If you can fit the Y membership in the budget its worth it. This is quite an undertaking. You will have to train a lot but you can definitely accomplish it. Good luck.

I think I have to wait on the membership, they now have a $200.00 "signing fee" plus the monthly fee. I don't have the $200.00 to give up front. :x Oh, Well, back to basics. EllieFunt
