Hello! Adding any kind of weight, no matter how small it may be is going to add "resistance" to your routine. This will help to tone your muscles and make them trimmer. As you get stronger, you can add weight and challenge yourself a little more. If you don't have a lot of extra money to add to your free weight collection here's a corny idea for you.. Save a couple of empty milk jugs, and fill them with water or sand. (Be sure that the lid fits tight) use them for weights. You have a handle and everything!

I tried those elastic bands and didn't really like them. They didn't "feel" right. I like the feel of free weights. You know you used them the next day.
definitely use the weights. it gives you more resistance and tones you up more. just take it nice and easy and you will have really good results.
elastic bands work good too. there are a few instructional videos on how to use elastic bands for toning. they aren't too expensive and can be used for a lot of different body parts. different colors have different resistances..
truth is: use either or both but just make sure to exercise! that's the main thing that can help you. when it comes to fat burning and losing weight, increasing your resting metabolic rate is the secret weapon which will help you accomplish your goals. running, walking, jogging, bicycling, etc. all are great. 20 minutes a day 4 times a week has an effect that your metabolism starts working well again and working while you rest. when you sleep, you burn calories. that is what will help any "dieter" lose weight the quickest. jump start your metabolism.
