i didn't know anything about this.. could definitely be something worth doing.. i think i would pass on the tv thing too... especially if tv adds 10 pounds (thats what i heard anyhow)
go to discovery channel website and it will give you the weigh in sites. My sister is going with me, since I am unable to drive or work out alone. She said she would go to Bally's with me too, I'm thrilled! :D I need all the support I can get.
Thanks EllieFunt! I checked out the web page and I'm going to try and get to the Woodfield Mall store. I also noticed you're in Illinois, like me. Maybe we'll be waiting in line together! Jen
I hope you had a better experience with this than I did! I just got back from my local Discovery Store. The store opened at 10, and they said to about 100 of us standing in line about 10:30, "you must have a pink card to use this line" someone inquired OK, where do we get a pink card? To which the man replied you had to be in line about 8 am to get a card with a time written on it when you were supposed to come back and wait in line." This was a frustrating experience for me so I ended it as quickly as possible and just came home to my family. But I want to hear if anyone actually got 3 free months at Ballys. Please let me know... Jen
anytime they are giving something away for free there is bound to be a crowd. i'm glad that you made it out of there alive :) ..most ymca's also have programs that are just as good for half of the price. but the truth is, if your heart is really in it, it doesn't matter where you go to exercise, you may not go anywhere at all. a few peices of exercise equipment in your basement should suffice. if i do hear of anyone i will be sure to let you know :)
Well that really stinks! How were you supposed to know that they were handing out those cards? I unfortunately was unable to make it, I had sick kids, I was really bummed. I really wanted the pass to Bally's (love to swim!), but looks like I wouldn't have gotten it anyway, cause I would have been there at 10:00. Sorry you made the trip for nothing. (You can do part of the program online though, just no free bally's) :? EllieFunt
Free Bally's is all I really wanted. I have been a member of the local YMCA but here in the city (I live in Chicago), it really is used as a homeless shelter and there are always "scary" looking people hanging around. There is another Y, not too far away, that seems a little nicer... yet I don't go. Yes, whoever said if your heart's not in it, you won't go is right! a million excuses won't make me any skinnier. I just feel like this was a big scam - a bait and switch. The Discovery Channel invited the whole country to get this kit, and then actually only had a few to give away. It makes me lose respect for them. (I am sure their CEO will cry when I turn off my tv instead of watching  .) Hope everyone is doing well and getting lighter in more than just wallets! Jen
Sounds like the YMCA that is near me, it has a hotel attached. Lots of scary people wandering around, I asked how they keep them out of the gym areas, "well they don't wear membership badges". Pretty light security if you ask me. I know the Y is affordable. I just can't swing the membership right now. Free is in my budget. I can't believe the whole body challenge thing, I wonder how many they were giving out at each location. I wonder if it was Bally or Discovery's fault. EllieFunt (BTW - I'm just outside Chicago and this weather is driving me nuts!)
Yeah, the Y in urban areas are usually a bit different than health clubs. I think that's the same almost everywhere.
I LOVE THAT SHOW ! I WAS HOOKED ON IT THE LAST TIME THEY DID IT SO THIS SHOULD BE GOOD ! THEY HAD A SHOW LIKE THAT ON THE FOOD NETWORK THAT WAS GOOD ALSO I LOVE TO SEE HOW THEY DO IT ITS COOL ! THANK YOU FOR THE UPDATE ! 8)
Maybe to cause a stir.. A bit of publicity is never a bad thing for a TV Channel, or a Health Club for that matter..
You can download the book they were handing out at the weigh in. It has diet, nutrition and exercise information. Go to the Discovery health website.
thats cool that you can download the book. i'll have to check it out!

Well, living here in Arkansas, there's no Bally's anywhere out here in no-mans land....much less a YMCA. We've got a city pool, but it's only open in the summer. Of course there is a small gym located at the mall, but it's so expensive to join it's ridiculous. I mean, $65 a month for one person? Tanning sessions there are available, too, for an extra $20 a month to tan once a week. Ugh. That's whats hard about living in a small town (population <7,000) You basically have to just "do it" yourself.
FYI - I did finally meet someone who had a great experience at the Discovery Store event. She got there about 8:15 and got one of the cards that said to return to the store between 1:00 and 2:30. She said she just went shopping and had lunch then returned it went very smoothly. She really did get a free 3-month membership to Bally's (worth $270 here, in Chicago)! Now, I can return to being a couch potato and watching the Discovery Channel. ( :) Really, I have a quiet exercise bike right in front of the tv!) Jen
peddling away the pounds while vegging out! now that's a winning combo :)
now we have the featherish easter challenge. this one can even be bigger than the national body challenge. people from everywhere can enter!
