[quote:05fa96c59b]maybe he has gotten soo thin that he got blown away while visiting the "Windy City" [/quote:05fa96c59b] Could be.. or perhaps its the deep dish pizza.. I guess we'll have to wait and see..

I'm here in Chicago and there have been no reports of alien abduction or a Cicero man wedged in the doorway of Pizza Uno. However we did get about 7 inches of snow on Sunday and it may have delayed his travel plans. It's nice that we are all missing him. Jen

Good question! I miss the Doc! Maybe he fell off the wagon, sold his BowFlex and him and his dog are down at the all you can eat buffet!

let's hope not! i hear the pizza might make you want to stay and never leave! (although the weather might :) )

It's so nice to be missed! A thread just for me! Thanks! :D Where was I? Well... here's the story. I left MA on Dec. 23rd (after bowling - my team won 1st place for the first half of the season, partly thanks to my good bowling (a 201 average for the night) that evening! Yay us!) at about 11:30 p.m. Around 5:30 a.m., when I was nearing Syracuse, NY (or so), I took a short nap (in my car). I awoke around 7-7:30 a.m. and kept driving. I made it into Chicago about 4 p.m. (Chicago time) on Christmas Eve. Anyone who's done a lot of driving on the road knows how difficult it is to eat well - and alas, that's when I decided to forego the diet for a few weeks. While driving and while in Chicago, I ate pizza, hamburgers, candy, cookies, shakes, eggs, etc. I threw in some healthy foods (mostly fruits, but some salads) and tried to get some token exercise (walked my dog a bit), but without my exercise equipment, I knew things wouldn't be the same. By the end of my trip, I noticed that my belt - the one I made two new notches in to fit, was suddenly just a bit tight. I may have gained as much as 10 pounds during those 2 weeks away!! 8O That seems a lot and maybe I didn't gain quite that much, but I knew I did gain weight. It's odd to think that I could have gained that much. After all, I used to eat this way all the time and I surely did not gain 5 pounds a week then. But I also was severely overweight then, meaning the pounds did come on, even if more slowly. Plus, I knew if I could lose 10 pounds in 2 weeks, I could probably gain it in that time as well. I arrived home yesterday, Jan. 6th. I left Chicago early Jan. 5th and stopped in Cleveland for about 7 hours to visit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (they have a U2 exhibit that ends this Jan.) and to see some family there. I arrived back in Ma around 9:30 a.m. on the 6th, getting only about 2 hours of sleep in the last 29 hours! I slept for a while upon arriving home and then even bowled that night (my team won all the games again that night - nice to be on a winning team!). After bowling, I was hungry. As food in my house was low and since I had already ate bad earlier in the day, I did something I hadn't done for over 4 months - I bought a pizza at the local parlor just down the street from me. That was my last "holiday treat". Today, Jan. 7th, it's back to life as "normal" - or at least as normal as it was before the holidays. I plan on working out later today. I've eaten healthy so far today (and eaten less food overall) and already am feeling better for it. My BowFlex is staring at me wanting to be used. Eating anything was fun for a while, but I realized that I truly do NOT miss it. I realized that it was more convenience than desire. It's easy to order a pizza, but more work to shop wisely and prepare foods. It's easy to lie on a couch, but it takes work to work-out. However, I (we) have to overcome that "easy" aspect if we want to lose that weight. And compliments are one way to stay motivated! :) While I was in Chicago, everyone complimented me saying how great I looked. So I know that what I was doing was good. 90% of the pictures I took with me in it looked great as well. Even some of the "bad shots" were still far better than photos of me taken last August. It would be SO easy for me to return to that "fat guy" - but I don't want to ever go there again. I knew I was going to eat whatever for those 2 weeks, so I'm not upset with myself at all. But I now have to get back into eating right and working-out again. I want this stomach gone by May (or at least significantly reduced). It may take me another 1.5 years or so before I reach my true goals (6-pack abs - something I've only dreamed about having), but that's O.K., time is "on my side". I'd love to visit people this summer (when I turn 40) or next holiday season having a far more muscular and slim physique. And maybe then, I can eat whatever I want and NOT worry about gaining any weight. Ever notice that the truly in-shape people can do that? It's because their muscles allow them to indulge without worry. I'm not quite there yet, so no more indulging for me. But I do think we should give ourselves that break for a while. It helped me realize that eating that food (fattening foods) and living that lifestyle (little exercise) is no longer the life for me. And that's a GOOD thing! Lastly, my two friends did not buy me a gift, per se. They said that they were taking me clothes shopping. I asked them if they did not like my clothes. They stated that wasn't it at all - rather, they wanted to buy me clothes that fit! LOL! And I have to admit, some of my pants and sweaters are way to baggy and loose on me. While I'll take them up on their offer, I'll have them wait a bit. First, I want to lose this holiday weight. Then I want to lose another 20 pounds (at least) before I do any major shopping for new clothes. I'm thinking that if I work at it, by spring I might be ready to really get some new clothing. At least that's my new goal. Anyway, thanks again for your concern. And trust me, at 250+ pounds, I'm not "blowing away" anywhere! LOL!

welcome back doc! hard to argue with that. i went to the bahamas for christmas and stayed at an "all-inclusive" so dieting was the last thing on my mind. :) luckily i only gained back 8 out of 25.

nice to see you back, doc! that was a nice gift that your friends gave you! i'm glad to know that i wasn't the only person thinking you should get a pair of pants that fit! did you enjoy the rock n roll hall of fame? welcome back and glad you had a safe journey :) etting

The Bahamas..Must be nice BigBoy! That sounds like a great way to spend Christmas.. Did you get a tan?

Wow, BigBoy! That sounds like a fun Xmas! I had a good time, but the Bahamas are certainly more fun than Chicago in the winter. As for my "diet-free" 2 week trip, I found out I wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. I weighed myself at work before I left. The scale read 252.7 pounds (fully clothed). I weighed myself moments ago and the scale read 255.1 pounds. So that's a total of 2.4 pounds gained. That could even be attributed to day-to-day (or in this case, week-to-week) variations. Given all the "bad food" I ate over the holidays, I'm happy that I gained so little. I know I gained a tiny bit though as my new belt hole is just a hair tight (just a hair) whereas it was a still loose before. Still, all things considered, I'm happy. As I wrote in the other post, I knew I was going to gain weight now, so I'm not unhappy at all. Yesterday, Jan. 7th, was the start of my diet - Part 2. I ate healthy and then went for a walk with my dog at night. I haven't exercised yet today (Jan. 8th) but hope to do so when I return home. I figured I should re-enter the exercise part a bit slowly. As it's been 2 weeks without using my BowFlex or exercise bike, I don't want to do too much too fast. I do plan on doing a lot this weekend though. My goal this year is that by the time I turn 40, which is July 14th, that I no longer have this big stomach. I don't need 6-pack abs - I just don't want to see a "pregnant-looking" stomach either. Of course, these days I look like I'm about 5 months pregnant. Before I started my diet, I looked like I was 9 months pregnant - with triplets.

sounds like a viable plan doc. and if you ever get a chance to go the bahamas, especially in the winter, take it. it is january and cold but summer is coming and i don't plan on being heavy and lumbering this august when the temps get sweltering and the humidity is overwhelming. now is the time to get ready for the beach!

i look so forward to spring and summer! pools and beaches are my favorite, and it's the perfect time to get workin on our beach bods! about 4 more months to get there..

Those are definitely great goals you all have! The "pregnant stomach" as DoctorU2 called it can be defeated. It just requires a good bit of cardio as well as the usual ab exercises. That and a bit of determination. The true "beach season" probably starts more like June so there are actually at least 4 1/2 full months to get the job done! That is a ton of time. And there's no greater feeling in the world then going to beach and being proud once you've knocked off a lot of weight.

seems doc has went MIA! he hasn't even entered the valentine's day challenge..

Maybe we just need to call his name! He's like Dr. Bombay. Do you remember Dr. Bombay? I think Dr. U2 is the same way! :P

..or they recalled him along with his bowflex!

He re-appeared! I thought it was Beetlejuice who appeared after you called him 3 times :P
