Hi Celeste! Just a question, are you streching any? Streching is very important before and after any exercise because it releases lactic acid. You should strech 10 mins before and after any type of exercise. That's the only suggestion I have! I hope you find a cure! Callie
The acid build-up in your legs will cause you initial pain, but it will dissipate rather quickly. It occurs because you have run out of sugar and your body is breaking down pyruvate, generating lactate, to get you more energy. Once you stop exercising and maybe eat a little, your normal sugar break-down cycle will resume. If your soreness lasts for a while after exercising, you might want to make sure you eat a little before exercising. Have a banana or an orange. If you exercise for a very long time, a sports drink might help. If you are sore for a few days, then this is simply due to your muscles being used! They are growing - that's a good thing. As you continue to work-out, your muscles will be less and less sore. You'll still notice it, but it won't be as severe.

That was perhaps the rudest thing I've ever read on this site! I made the effort to explain what's going on in your body and then gave some advice - THAT YOU ASKED FOR - on what to do to prevent it. Instead of appreciating the time I took to respond, you were condescending. If that wasn't enough, you even scolded me for "lecturing" you. Hey, good luck to ya - but I have NO idea what you want or how to help you. If you don't want people to give advice, don't ask for it. :x
I apologize on behalf of Celeste. **I'm sorry** Some people are just plain rude, and although they ask for help, I guess that they don't really mean it. I also noticed she hasn't been back..
a touchy single serving friend if i don't say so meself :)
LOL! Thanks both of you. And no need to apologize Kristin. From my perspective, the best way to deal with a problem/issue is to learn about it. The person claimed she knew what lactic acid is, but I challenge that. Does she know where it comes from? Does she understand why? If she can answer these questions, then she can learn how to prevent it. And that's how I approached answering her request for help. The odd thing is, she didn't even acknowledge the prevention advice I gave - she just complained about me "lecturing" her. Oh well... can't help someone who doesn't want help. This reminds me... Sometimes I think we are so used to a "must have it now" mentality, that we don't really want to take the time to learn - we just want the answer. We want to see weight loss, but not spend time exercising. We want to feel no pain, but not spend time figuring out what causes it. We want everything now. But that mentality simply doesn't work. A poorly executed plan may produce some sort of result, but is it the one we want?
no it isn't. you can heat a house by burning 20 dollar bills but is that cost effective? effective weight loss is what's needed.
Doc, Your right about that. People only want to focus in on what they want. This in a society of 24 hour just about anything you need or want. Weight loss takes time and a lifelong commitment to eating better and exercising.. and the results are like wise investments. Even though the "investment" may fluctuate, long term you are better off doing it knowing that the fruits fo your labor will pay off with improved health. (and a smaller waistline) A lot of us want instant results and aren't happy when it doesn't come fast enough..
the effort to lose a great deal of weight is enormous! its not easy. anyone does it deserves high praise.
