Hello all! I just wanted to share a few things that I have found over the last week or so. With the holidays upon us..big meals, lots of parties...REAL LIFE!, Redbook magazine this month has a GREAT article called the Christmas South Beach Diet that had some helpful tips. Also the Today Show had the same kind of thing on earlier this week. They both talked about what to do at parties or meals when there aren't many low-fat options other than raiding the veggie tray. Like Hot Cocoa being better for you that Hot Cider...that kind of thing! It takes real life situations and gives you smart choices so you are leaving your family gathering depressed and bloated because you were "bad". I'm sure that msnbc.com will have the Today Show segment on there and the Redbook issue is on stands now. In the Redbook article, it talked about if you are really desperate for chocolate, try Peanut M&Ms. (sorry if you're allergic to nuts!) The good fats in the peanuts help to combat the bad fats in the chocolate. Now it doesn't say eat the entire bag, but a handful won't kill you and its a lot better than a heaping bowl of chocolate ice cream!
Another really cool thing I saw was on msn.com about a week or so ago. It said that if you just can't stand low-fat salad dressings (ME ME ME) put or ask for your dressing on the side and dip your fork in the dressing with each bite. Just enough to coat your fork and get the taste. I tried it the other day when I went out for lunch and it works for me! The same article also said to NEVER EAT OUT OF A BAG! I like Tortilla chips, A LOT, and I am notorious for setting down with the bag and all of sudden eating half. It said take a handful or two out and put them on a plate or bowl. DUH, why didn't I think of that? The same rule applies with candy and other bagged no nos. Anyway, I hope that helped! They are some things that I never would have thought of and its REAL LIFE stuff, not deprive yourself of everything bad! We aren't perfect and this helps us make smarter decisions even if they aren't "perfect" for us!
Thank you for that information!
Eating anything out of a "bag" is a relatively bad idea. If I have bag, I have a bag. If you take a close look at the labels on bags, you can eat
untold calories, carbohydrates and fats.
Junk food always leaves me feeling "hungry" if that makes any sense..
because once I've ate an entire bag of chips you think that that would be enough to satisfy..
