I know there is already a Christmas Goal up, so I thought I would start a End Of Holiday Challange! Meaning, Christmas is the last 'Big' holiday for most of us, so its the one to determine if we made it through the 'Holiday Season!' Even if you don't celebrate X-mas, your still welcome to join! Its for everyone! The challange ends in January on your first weigh-in day of that month! For Example: I weigh in on Sunday, so January 4th is the end of the End Of Holiday Challange for me! ANYONE IS WELCOME TO JOIN!!! Need Motivation? Accountibility? Stay on Track?! This is the Challange for you! Post your weight/other goals for December! And remember to post every week on how your doing! Example: Starting Weight/Current Weight/December Goal Weight/Other Goals for December/Height GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!! You [b:219781ddf3]CAN[/b:219781ddf3] do it!!! My Stats: Starting Weight: 180 Lbs Current Weight: 150.8 Lbs December Goal: 145 Lbs Other Goals: Eat Healthy! -Veronica

This is not related to the topic at all, but it's been bugging me... I hate to be such a dork here, but I always thought the word was "chall[b:8ff8040937]E[/b:8ff8040937]nge" not chall[b:8ff8040937]A[/b:8ff8040937]nge. Yet, I see numerous threads with this apparent misspelling. Which is it?

you are correct! the spelling is: [b:6204c4e03a] Challenge [/b:6204c4e03a] not [i:6204c4e03a] Challange [/i:6204c4e03a] meriam webster confirmed this to be true!

Ack! Sorry about the misspelling. Never was a strong point of mine! I wil remember to correct that from now on! Thanks, Veronica

when i started: 310 current: 290 goal: 275

Nice job! BigBoy! Just keep at it, and more great results are sure to follow :)

Your doing great Bigboy! You'll be slimboy in no time!! Good Luck! -Veronica

[quote:b9f9f71744="Kirlaskia"]Ack! Sorry about the misspelling. Never was a strong point of mine! I wil remember to correct that from now on! Thanks, Veronica[/quote:b9f9f71744] LOL! No problem Veronica! I thought *I* had been spelling it wrong all these years! So far I'm doing good on my personal goals. During Thanksgiving week, I worked out like a madman! I knew some good meals were coming and wanted to be prepared. I recall doing weights, biking and walking on Sunday, biking (my stationary bike) on Monday, weights and walking on Tuesday, Wed. off, then weights and biking on Thursday AND Friday. My work outs on Thurs. and Fri. were done shortly before I had nice holiday dinners - so it was almost like I burned off the calories before I even ate them! For some reason, I was tired Sat.-Mon. So I only walked Sun. night. But I kept my calorie content low. Then I biked and bowled on Tues. and then did weights and biking this morning (Wed.). When I bike, I get a minimum of 150 calories burned, but usually go for 200 calories (there's a nice little counter on the bike). As y'all know, I use a BowFlex for weight lifting. My bike is one of those fan bikes - the resistance comes from how fast I pedal (and the air). It has pedals and arm attachments, so both upper and lower body get used. I've had this bike for years (bought it back when I first tried to diet in 1995!) but it sat around unused (poor thing). Now that exercise is really part of my life, I've finally incorporated the bike back into my work outs. It's tiring, but I like it a lot. As I'll be away from my BowFlex and bike during the holidays, I wanted to make sure I lose as much as I can before I leave for Chicago. So I'm pushing myself hard now. I'm happy with my progress - but if only this big blob of fat on my stomach would disappear... Still, my friends say I "have no ass" and need to buy new clothes - so I guess that's something. :)

I forgot to mention, I just stepped on my work scale and... wait. First some history... When I first started dieting, I was too embarrassed to step on my work scale. I got on my home scale and it read 285 pounds. I was relieved that it didn't say 300+. After I lost about 20 pounds and my home scale was reading in the 260's, I became brave enough to step on my work scale. It read 285! Granted, I was fully dressed, but there's no way my clothes and shoes weighed 20 pounds. I then stepped on a series of other scales (at stores, at friends' homes, etc.) and they all agreed with my work scale. I really was around 285 (minus a few pounds for clothing). But - I had already dropped 20 pounds! So that means I really was 305 pounds when I started! Yikes! 8O I've noticed that while my home scale is forgiving of ~20 pounds, whenever it says I lost a pound all the other scales also confirm that I've lost a pound. So it monitors the weight loss accurately - it's just off 20 pounds from my "actual" weight. With that intro. in mind... As I wrote, when I finally got brave enough to step on my work scale, it read 285 pounds. I just stepped on it now and it read 253.8 pounds! My lowest reading yet!!! :D More importantly, this states that I've lost over 30 pounds since I've been using the work scale and over 50 pounds total since I started! Yay! My home scale floats between 230 and 235, so this weight is confirmed! 50 pounds gone! My pre-Christmas goal is to get that work scale down into the 240's. With just 4 pounds to go, this should be possible. Correspondingly, I want my home scale to read in the 220's. Ideally, I'd like to get my work scale down to 245 (keep in mind, I'm fully dressed when I use my work scale) before Christmas, so that's the goal I'm aiming for. Anyway, I'm happy with my progress. Now, if only this belly in front of me would get the hint and leave...

let me tell you, you never lose weight in the places you where you *want* :) have you tried targeted exercises for your rump? one i can think of offhand would be a leg press. it would help to build muscle and tone/ shape those darn buttocks! (that aren't there.. hehe)

(that aren't there.. hehe)[/quote:6748e0858d] Is this post meant for me? :?: My behind is fine! LOL! My friends say I "lost my ass" only because my pants are now so big that my ass isn't showing any more. But I do a lot of leg exercises and I think that part of me is fine. Even when I was heavy, it wasn't my rear that was the problem. For me, it's my gut. However, I do aerobics and weight training, with crunches, to get the gut reduced. It's going down, but as this is the prime fat area for men, it'll probably just take me a lot longer to finally get that belly fat down.

"let me tell you, you never lose weight in the places you where you *want*" How true...nd sad, I will be flat chested in no time if I start to lose  I'm totally down with a challAnge or challEnge, Today ye olde scale says 150 maybe I can make it to 135 by 1/04/2004! Also, Yea! BigBoy! :D

doc.. maybe you just need a new pair of pants and a new belt. :) i used to cling to old clothes that didn't fit anymore and wear them till they were ragged. after getting most of my weight off, i decided that looking like a full grown ragamuffin was silly. i gave my old clothes to charity. i think it was when i gained my confidence back. instead of being someone that blended with everyone else, i would kick my looks up a notch. why not? it's nothing more than dropping 20.00 for a pair of jeans that fit good, maybe double it for a designer pair like tommy.. and there is a sale going on. i decided that i would never again look a fool by dressing in "clown pants" ( my terminology for ill fitting pants )

Congrats to everyone for their weight loss!! This is great! I, too, will partake in this holiday challenge.... Starting weight: 202 (9/27/03) Current weight: 176 Goal - as of 1/24/03: To break the 170 mark! My weigh in's are at the end of the month, but I'd really love to hit that long ago number of 169 before New Years Eve. I'd really have something great to celebrate!!! I weighed 179 at my weigh in at the doctor's office on 11/24. I, too, have found a difference with these mean old scales: my home scales are about 2 pounds heavier than the ones at the doc's, and the scales at work are almost ALWAYS off, sometimes by 4-6 pounds either way. I keep telling them they need to get them "fixed". So...usually, when I weigh at work, after NOT weighing at home for a while, I freak out when I see that number...thinking I've gained! Here's hoping everyone has a good holiday season, and look forward to posting about the challenge.

My pants, while loose, still fit. I still need a 2x shirt/sweater. My waist (measured around the navel) is still 44" - which is my pant size. Of course, most men don't wear their pants around their navels. Hence, they tend to be too big. Plus, I'd buy the "loose fit" clothes, so they look even looser. I figure if I meet my spring goals (where a good chunk of this gut is gone), then it'll be the perfect time to upgrade my wardrobe! If I have to do it sooner - yay me. But right now, I don't think the clothes I have are so loose that they merit being "retired".

Hello all! What a great idea for an end of the holidays challenge! Since I just started yesterday here is my goal: My current weight is 160lbs (I'm 20 years old, 5'7, this is considered moderately over weight according to fitday.com) My goal overall is to be 130 by May 1 (my 21st bday) My goal for the holidays is to make it to 150/145 by Jan 10 (the start of formal recrutement for sororities at school). Since exams are next week I started the changing the way I eat phase today! I know I won't have much time for exercising over the next two weeks so until then I'm focusing on my diet. After exams, its walking 30 mins a day until school starts Jan 12. (Then its back to the gym, aerobics, etc since all that stuff is on campus). This is the first time I'm actually being realistic about my goals so I hope it works!

All of you are doing great!! I expected a 3+lb gain this week, but luckily only gained 1.8! I am at 152.6lbs now, but I will have it off next week! -Veronica

I am so excited! I actually woke up early (930am) and went for a walk!!!! I don't know how far i went so I am gonna borrow my moms pedometer thing but it seamed far. I soooo did not want to do it either but it wasn't too bad. 1/2way through my leggs hurt soooo bad (I haven't exercized in for ever  ) But I kept going cuz I had to get home and by the time I got home I felt better. I know I got my heart rate up too. THen I made my coffee. I never do ANYTHING with out my coffee and I bribed myself with coffee. Then I had two Clemtines (little orange type fruits, love them) for breakfast. And to think I ould till be in bed right now...mmmm bed, I love bed...bad thought go away!! :x I am so hyped right now, I can't believe I did it! This proably sounds dumb cuz it is such a little thing but it make mehappy none the less. :D

By 9:30, I've long since been at work! If I want to exercise in the mornings, I have to wake up no later than 6:30!!

that is great news lucifina! i have been doing my stepper pretty much every day! i get on for 5 minutes here and there throughout the day. i feel a lot better about myself when i put at least *some* effort. :) happy to hear you are back on track!

But then again I do stay up till 3-5am most of the time. Hey Pixie, that reminds me I have a stair stepper...I am gonna go get it and put it in my office right now so I have to stare at it, and then it will talk to me amd be like "step on me, step on me now!!! You know you want to!" Ok well maybe I am nutz but I am still gonna do it! :D

GREAT JOB, LUCIFINA!!!! WTG!!!! PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK!! -Veronica

i put mine right in the living room. it's a really small one made by nordictrack. it doesn't take up much space so if i'm passing by, and not in hurry to get in the kitchen i jump on for a few minutes here and there. i don't work from home, but my job requires me to be in front of a computer for most of the day. i know that i have to combat the videorays :) and fight the saddlebags that come along with a**sitting all day. so this is better than nothing. i know i really need to kick things up a notch to get my weight where i want it to be, but again anything is better than doing nothing! good luck to you, and keep us posted!

Ugh... I had hoped to dip into the 240's on my work scale by the holidays, but today it reads around 256, up a few pounds from the 254 I had last week. I know day to day differences can cause some weight fluctuation. Maybe my clothes are heavier today. Maybe my shoes are. Maybe I am retaining a bit more water. However, I fear that even though I tried to eat healthy this past week, I think I ate a bit too much and didn't exercise enough. I exercised a lot on Sunday and this morning, but didn't do much most of last week. Plus, I let myself eat a bag of snack-sized Tootsie Rolls (about 20 in a bag). I ate them over a period of 4 days, so it's not like I ate them in one sitting. And for chocolates, they are low in fat. Still, did I really need to eat them at all? I think the heavy snow we had here over the weekend caused a "hibernation effect". Even though I ate healthy and tried to watch what I ate, I get the feeling I still ate a bit too much and didn't exercise enough. So I'm back at it this week. I really want that work scale to read 249 (or have my home scale read 229) before I leave for Chicago for the holidays. Fortunately, today is starting out right. I used my exercise bike for 30 minutes - or until I burned 300 calories. That's a new personal high for me (I usually stop at 200 calories). If I watch my food intake and keep exercising the rest of the week, maybe by the 19th or so, I'll hit my goals. I'm not fretting over the very slight apparent weight gain, just a bit disappointed that I haven't lost more. But if things were easy, we'd all look like models.

hang in there doc. you can do this without a doubt. the hibernation thing makes a lot of sense to me. it's cold, it's crappy outside and the sun is nowhere to be seen for days. it seems like midnight at 5 pm. most days i would rather stay at home when i get there. i think it's like a minor affliction of SAD. nothing to seek therapy for, but just the general malaise i feel when the days are sooo short. i could go to bed at about 6:30. but anyhoo.. enough about me. maybe its some muscle mass adding to your overall weight? if you've been kicking butt on that bowflex, it stands to reason that it might account for a "weight gain" don't dwell on what you did on saturday. tootsie rolls and a modified pizza are hardly going to effect you long term. overall you are making all the right calls, and as far as exercise is concerned, you have been pretty dedicated to it. don't focus on the fact that you could have, should have, would have done. hindsight is 20/20. today is new day to do everything right. and you can!

Well thanks to the flu bug I am 7 lbs lighter! It still counts! I came down with the flu over the weekend so it slowed progress down a little bit. But for the last 2 days since I've been feeling better and getting some again, I have stayed under 1300 calories! And drank 17 oz of water, which is way more than I was before! I took my first exam today so that means 2 down and I can get started on the exercise part! My word to the wise-if you haven't got the flu shot yet, DO IT! Having a temp of 104 is not fun! Stay healthy!

That's slightly over 2 cups - ya sure you didn't drown? LOL! Was that a mistype or do you really drink so little water every day that 17 oz. is a lot?

HaHa...well Doc I am seriously addicted to caffenine! And has been all I drank for years. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, it didn't matter. Now I am limiting myself to 2 a day, one for lunch and one for dinner. I got a case of bottled water and it measures 16.9 oz a bottle. So I have been drinking one a day to start off. It sounds funny but this is been a big step for me. I tried switching to Pepsi 1 a few months back and I went through withdrawls so bad that I was in bed for three days! So now I am just drinking enough to keep the headaches away! So yea its not a like now, but I am working my way to drinking more water. I adapt to change if it is gradual!

congrats on the 7 pounds! adding water to your diet slowly, and replacing the soda is going to be the best thing you can do. do you drink the diet version or the regular? the reason i ask is because beverages, not just soda, contain so many calories that people overlook. a 20 oz. pepsi contains about 250. that's because a 20 oz. pepsi is actually 2 1/2 servings. many folks either don't know or don't account what they drink has calories. If you are in the habit of drinking a 6 pack daily thats [b:f9660514ad]an amazing 1500 calories[/b:f9660514ad] without even eating food! add a mcdonald's value meal and it's hardly surprising so many people are overweight! best of luck to you and gald to hear that you are feeling better. :)

Thanks Pixie! Yea I drink regular Pepsi and I have been counting them everyday when I add up my calories. I could easily drink a six pack a day and I probably have been until now! I figured that by working my way up to more and more water a day would be the best because it wouldn't "shock" my body quite as bad. So far it's working! Today is my LAST exam! So tomorrow I will go for a nice long walk to celebrate! Thanks again for the encouragement & I'll keep ya posted!

cool. i'm glad to hear everything is going well for you. add water in slowly if you need to, the more the better. you might be surprised how much better you feel. :) i might even venture to guess the more and more water you drink, the less you will have caffiene headaches, too. keep it up and good luck on your final exam!

way to go! very impressive!

WTG!!!!!!!!!! Hello! Busy week so I havent been able to post, but I weighed in today.... LOST 3.4lbs!! Putting me at 149.2 Lbs! I AM IN THE 140's NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -Veronica

Congratulations Veronica! I'm sure it's a great feeling knowing you are down below 150! As I wrote in another thread, I too, surprisingly enough, lost weight. Despite what I thought was a "bad" or "break even" week, when I stepped on my work and home scales this morning (Dec. 15th), I reached new LOWS in my weight! If I stepped slowly on my home scale, I dipped below 230 - down to 228!! On my work scale (where I'm fully dressed, with fleece pullover, shoes, jeans, etc.), I obtained a new low reading of 252.7! :D So I guess the amount of exercise I was doing combined with eating low amounts of food - even if they were richer food items - was enough to help shed a few more pounds. Yay me! I had thought I gained weight or stayed even because I knew I wasn't working out quite as much as I had been, plus I had been eating some richer holiday foods. That said, I did try to limit my overall food intake - so perhaps I found a good balance. My guess is that I'm in the 240's already on my work scale (probably if I just removed my shoes), but I want it to read that low fully clothed. That's my holiday goal. Hopefully I can shed those 3 pounds by Xmas (give or take). Even if I'm just a bit short of that goal, I think I did pretty darn good. :)

8O oh no I haven't lost any weight. I have been exercizing though and putting the stair stepper in the office totally helped but I have been sooo sick the past few days. I have done nothing but lounge and drink h20 and eat a bit of chicken noodle soup. I wish I could breath!!! I want to exercize as I am trying to start the habit of doing so but I have barely been able to make ait to my computer let alone go out for a walk.

get well! then worry about the rest. this whole flu thing i'm hearing about sounds really bad. i didn't get a flu shot this year. have some chicken soup and a nap, hope you feel better soon.

HELLO THE HOLIDAYS HAVE ENDED! How did everyone do? I made it through the holidays without gaining or losing any weight.. 8O Anyone else gonna check in?
