Hello all. I am new here. I am starting the Atkins Diet tomorrow. I was on a low calorie diet at the beginning of the year and dropped 30 pounds. I was very leary about the whole low-carb thing, but recently decided buy the books and look into it. It seems to me that if I just decide to change my lifestyle and eating habbits, this could be a really good "diet." Anyway, can someone please tell me what to eat because right now, I plan on just eating eggs and turkey and maybe some salad throughout the two-week induction. This is going to be really rough for me at first considering I am going to quit eating carbs, drinking soda and alcohol, smoking, and talking to my cheating fiance all in one day. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!!!

In the book(s) there are lists of acceptable foods for each phase. Or you can go to www.atkinscenter.com and find the phase that you are in, and it will list the foods you can have. I strongly suggest that you read the material BEFORE you get started.

Ok, here's the deal. I bought the Atkins for Life book before I bought the journal. Now I am more confused than ever. I read the book as well as the journal. I know there is a list, but it seems to me that the whole thing is just contridicting itself. I mean, I don't know, I guess I am just stupid, but I have never had a problem following any other books or people for that matter, but this is so confusing. I guess it's my fault for picking up the wrong book first. Thanks anyway.

Since you are just starting, then that means that you are probably in Induction. For the list of acceptable foods, go to Atkins center online and once you get there do a search for 'induction'. It will come back with everything pertaining to induction. In one of those areas it will list all the acceptable foods for induction. Most everything you need to do Atkins you can find on the Atkins website. But, I do suggest getting Atkins New Diet Revolution. There are some stories in there that aren't on the website, and it explains everything from why it works to how to maintain your weight loss for life. In the back of the book there is also a carb counter. Don't give up!!!!

Atkins is not just all about meat, eggs and crème, all though many would like you believe that it is. Chapter 8 is the induction diet (the first 2 weeks), it lists: Lettuce (all types) Celery Tomatoes Cucumber Avocados Broccoli Cauliflower String or was beans Eggplant Zucchini Radish Squash Asparagras Brussels sprouts ... The list goes on. After those two weeks you can also start adding some fruits, like strawberries and blueberries.
