it's about time we got an exercise forum going here.. since the chances of losing weight without doing exercise is seldomly heard of. here is my basic exercise program. i walk for 30 minutes a day, and then every other day i do light weight lifting., alternating legs and arms. i'm interested to know what others are doing also.. :)

after a month hiatus i am about to get back to a 1/2 hour 4 times a week of the elliptical trainer.

I walk from the fridge to the TV several times a night. I'm exhausted.

hehe.. everone here is trying to lose weight, so it seems this would be a good place to talk about exercises we are doing.. like if you are doing exercise tapes, whether or not you like them, if you are seeing results etc. etc. etc. a place to share exercises you do to work on "trouble" spots.. i am interested to know, because so far there hasn't been much word on what people are doing to move their bodies. i personally wouldn't mind finding a belly dancing class or tape to tone my own belly.. situps are so boring! maybe someone here would have a suggestion for me..

PixieChic, while searching for something at the library here, I found a bellydancing video, maybe you can find it at yours! Bellydance boogie [videorecording] / Goldhil Home Media and David Nakahara Enterprises, Inc. As for my exercise routine, I have to keep it fresh, if not I lose interest. For a few weeks I was doing Tae-Bo. I found some Richard Simmons videos at a garage sale and have been doing those this week. I also have the Abs and Legs of Steel. I will be rotaing these to keep myself interested! On the days I don't do a video, I use my handweights, ankleweights and do some basic exercises like situps, pushups (don't look at my form!!! ) and stretches.

cool.. i'll have to give that a look! if i decide to order it, i'll have to let you know how i like it! boredom in a routine is never fun, and probably the best reason to try and mix things up a bit. i have been using an exercise ball for some basic exercises, but know that i have to kick it up a notch if i want to see the results i'm looking for. i only need to drop about 10-15 pounds, but probably not even that much, i just really need to tone up.

I am addicted to step aerobics. I do them even when I don't "have" to. :) about 3 times a week.

well i ordered a 4 DVD collection on bellydancing workouts, routines etc. i am anxiously awaiting its arrival via UPS as we speak. i will let you know what i think about them after a run through! i'm really hoping these will help me get a little rythm, and help tone up my belly!!

got them yesterday.. did one of them today.. i have a long way to go before being a professional! it was fun, and with some practice maybe i will be someday! (hehe) i can't help but think about how good Beyonce looks in the video for baby boy. i watched a show about the video, and she practiced for 8 hours to get her moves right for it so i know it isn't something i'll be able to do overnight. i did like working some of forgotten about (or never used) muscles, so its a good thing! i'll keep everyone posted here on how my bellydancing is going for me!

that actually sounds cool! did it make you sore?

a lil bit! i started with the beginner tape, and it wasn't that difficult, but the moves are totally weird! (in a good way) i did it early this morning and my tummy feels like it's been moved a little..

The amount of exercise DVDs you can get these days is truly impressive. No need to be bored and you can do the work in the privacy of your own home!

What I'm going to write may sound "odd" - but bear with me. I have my BowFlex (weight-lifting machine) in my second bedroom (in my apartment) which also serves as my den. It's a big room, so my computer is in there too. When I work-out, I have a bunch of upbeat songs I play on my computer to keep me going. Currently, I'm in a "disco" phase , but I've played other types of music too (U2, Black Motorcycle Rebel Club, etc.). The computer will eventually go into a screensaver mode. As I'm working-out, the music keeps me going, and all is good. But eventually I reach a point where I say, "I want to stop. I want a break!" Then I glance over at my screensaver. I've downloaded a bunch of images of actors - famous people like Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, etc. - and compiled them into a folder to use as a screensaver. As "gay" as this sounds, many of these pictures are of them shirtless. Why? Because as I'm working-out getting tired and wondering if I should stop, one of their pictures pops up. I glance at it and think, "That's what I want to look like. I'm tired of this big blob of fat around my middle! I want to be muscular!" This ALWAYS works - I keep going on my work-out. Again, maybe it sounds a little odd to do this (and I don't care, I'm comfortable enough with who I am, even with this fat!) but it's incentive for me. I can appreciate how these men look and I want to look like them. This isn't sexual - it's about my goals. They are serving as role models for me. I've heard other people will do the same. However, some people put up pictures of fat people on their fridge to remind them NOT to eat. I like positive reinforcement better than negative, so I'd prefer to see pictures of what I WILL look like if I keep working-out as opposed to nasty pictures of what I might look like if I keep eating. But the point is, whatever works to keep you going is good.

hey doc, would you send me [i:f34d1dbcdb]your[/i:f34d1dbcdb] screensaver?

A great video to do at home is pilates. I do it when I get the chance and you feel worked out in places that are very hard to work out! Like inner thighs and lower abdominal area. It is also very relaxing. I do it right before I go to bed and I sleep like a baby every time that I use it. If I do not want to go to sleep then I just skip the relaxtion part at the end of the video!

Hello everyone! I wanted to share my thoughts! I saw where a few of you had gotten bellydancing videos and that is awesome! I danced for 10 years and stopped my senior year in high school (about 3 years ago). Let me tell ya, dancing is a good workout! You are moving in so many different ways that you work so many more muscles than a lot of other exercises! It didn't matter if I was in tip top shape or not so hot, after every practice I was sore! So with that said YAY for dancing! I am going to look for some dancing videos right now! They are about the only ones I can really follow. I'm always worried if I am doing the moves correctly when I'm at home watching a tape. I do much better in classes with other people. At my school, the yoga instructer has classes on Tuesday nights so I make it a point to go (they are free!). On Mondays & Wednesdays, they have aerobics, which is basically a bunch of us in an exercise room watching a video. Since, my schedule is gonna change this semester, I don't know how much I will get to go to aerobics, so I am going to go to the gym more. Anyway, Doc's idea of the screensaver is BRILLANT! I am going to print off pics of Britney, etc, and put them on the fridge and all my mirrors! And if I start to workout at home more, I will put them in front of me then! Thanks for that idea! Good luck to everyone!

[quote:9d43a6f192="4tun8"]hey doc, would you send me [i:9d43a6f192]your[/i:9d43a6f192] screensaver?[/quote:9d43a6f192] LOL! I often think that other people would uh, "appreciate" my screensaver more than I. When it pops on and I see those guys and realize I haven't worked out - I just turn off my monitor! But at times they do serve as inspiration.

I'm not sure I want fit people on the screensaver. It might appear they are just a bunch of fit people mocking me!

The best way to inspire yourself...at least for me, is to CRANK up some upbeat music in your house. Even when you totally don't feel like exercising at all, after you hear a song or two you can't help but start moving!!!! I've been trying to lose weight for a couple years now, since I had my son, and finally it feels like my time has come! I've seen videos, and do them sometimes...but I am usually totally unmotivated to do them. However, every time I turn on some good music, it really changes my mood and gets me going. Right now its the Jazzy/disco-ish/funky beats of Stevie Wonder's 70's stuff but I just change it whenever I get bored. I just makeup my own routine...like during this song I do butt exercises, another song is legs, another crunches, another weights...etc...through the whole CD. And, for anyone out there who just has dancing in your bones throw in lots of freestyle! Who cares what the nighbors think...OR close the shades. Believe me, I have tried many things, and this one is the only one that has really worked. I love it! Use the exercises you have learned from your videos/gym classes and just go with it. Something about making up your own routine in the moment seems to be more motivationg to me than somebody else's routine and their music. I can also spend more time on the parts on my body that need help.

I try to go to the park everyday and when i am at the park i run/jog for about 1 to 2 hours.... and when I'm at home i do push-ups and sit-ups. Thats seems to be working with me.... i lost 25 pounds in two months just by doing that!!!

:)

that is great! keep up the good work. i know that the weather here has been unseasonable . it has been 50 or above for the last 5 days! i think they are calling for snow this weekend, though..
