Thanks for this recipe. I know I need to eat mopre salad but I am sick of the same old thing. This will definetly help. Chris :wink:
I really have to question how "good" this salad is for you. You don't say anything about serving size, but using a full pound of ground beef per one bag of salad really should break this out into about 6 salads to remain healthful and not overload on calories. FYI: the taco salad at taco bell has 64 grams of fat... and when I worked there, I remembered people ordering, and saying "well, I'm on a diet, I'll just have the taco salad". It was so hard not to say something. Just because it's a salad, doesn't mean it's good for you. If someone ate more than a quarter of the recipe above for one meal, even with draining and rinsing the fat, I really can't see how that would be cutting calories considering the calories in ground beef. I would highly recommend substituting lean ground turkey or chicken, or even half ground turkey and half ground soy crumbles. When using the taco seasoning, you get the same flavors and loads more health benefit by not using beef. Just something to consider...
I agree with lemonjazz. Cut that ground beef to half pound and use extra lean. :oops:
or ground turkey if you have that available. less fat than even ground sirloin.
Also, substitute with low-fat or fat-free cheeses, sour creams and dressings! I love the Taco Bell salads - especially the taco salad. But I wasn't kidding myself when I ate them. I knew they were loaded with fat. Sure, eating veggies is always good, but the chili, beef, sour cream and cheese made that salad almost as bad as a burger (if not worse!).
i used to eat taco salad all the time its a wonderful dish.... maybe u could also try it with grilled chicken instead of ground beef! I think it would taste delicious! ~Just a thought~
