i will give it a shot: 306 today 296 by 11/30/2003 286 by 12/23/2003
I will give it a shot as well! In October my weight went up and down within a 10 lb range, I'm ready to see a steady decrease!!!!!!! Started March 2003: 260 Now: 214 by 11/30: 200 (first time at 200 since AFTER having my daughter in '98 ) by 12/25: 190 Good Luck to everyone!!!!
that 200 pounds will be a definite psychological plateau for you charity. i bet you will be elated when you achieve that.
I'll join. As my holiday goal is 20 pounds, I guess I need to lose *at least* 10 pounds by the end of November. 20 pounds might be a bit tough to achieve by Christmas, but I'll keep the bar set high. I fear that if I lower the bar too much, I might not work as hard. That is, say I only lose 15 pounds by Christmas instead of 20. I might not have achieved my goal, but I can still be proud. For if I hadn't worked so hard to lose 20, I might not have lost 15. In contrast, if I only aim to lose 15, I might just drop 10. Therefore, my end of Nov. goal is 10 pounds lost (ideally more). I want my work scale to read in the mid-250's and my home scale firmly planted in the mid- to lower 230's.
definitely time for goal setting. i set the bar pretty low all year and have forgiven myself for my several miscues. definitely going to be tougher on myself this time!
I will join in, too! Well, my Christmas goal is to lose 15. It just seemed easier to set a goal a little further away, that's why I didn't do a Thanksgiving goal. But I will give it a shot. The magic number is 7. I *will* lose 7 pounds by Thanksgiving, and hope that dinner that day doesn't put it all back on!
WTG on joining in everyone!!!! I am sure we can all make our goals, just remember to keep eating healthy, and drinking that water!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK! -Veronica
HOW DID EVERYONE DO THIS WEEK?!?!?!?!?!! I passed my half-way there goal of (152.5) I lost 1.8 Lbs which brought me to 152 lbs!!! My nov. 30th goal is 150, I know I will make it!!!! I have lost a total of 28lbs so far! -Veronica
I had an okay week. I am down a couple. you did a great job kirlaskia! keep up the good work.
nice job kirlaiaska. you serve as an inspiration to all of us!
I didn't think I was doing too well. I didn't think I was exercising enough or eating quite as well as I had before. Well, whatever I was doing - apparently it was working. I stepped on my home scale this morning. It read 239. I stepped on it again - it read 237!! I was psyched! Now, late at night, I stepped on it 2x more - and obtained the same readings. My home scale now lists me in the 230's!! Keep in mind, when I started, this scale had me in the 280's! I went to work and fully dressed (I was completely unclothed on the home scale) I obtained a reading of 259. Yes, it reads 20 pounds more - and I'm now convinced this is my actual weight as all other scales agree with it (plus, the extra flab on me suggests a weight closer to 260 than 240). Still, I was thrilled. I never had a weight in the 250's on this scale before! Although I can't know positively, given that this work scale always adds 20 pounds, I most likely weighed over 300 on this scale when I started the program. Yikes!! However, I finally got brave enough to step on it after my home scale said I lost 20 pounds. At that time, the work scale read 285 (again, fully dressed). So I'm now down 26 pounds on my work scale - and most likely about 45 pounds overall! My end of Nov. goal is to have my home scale read in the low 230's and my work scale read in the low to mid-250's. I might just reach that goal!!
WAY TO GO!!!!! THAT"S EXCELLENT!!! Keep up whatever you are doing! -Veronica
doc! excellent! excellent! excellent! are you noticing that your clothes are falling off of you yet? is your pooch also seeing the same results as you?
way to go doc. you are starting to hit the point where momentum is going to carry you. i have defintely lost weight this week. i have been sick as hell and completely lost my appetite. that helped my lose 10 pounds in a couple days. obviously i will have to be careful about gaining it back quickly but i'm not so sure i will. i REALLY plan on weighing less for the year end.
[quote:ce3d1d750e="PixieChic"]doc! excellent! excellent! excellent! are you noticing that your clothes are falling off of you yet? is your pooch also seeing the same results as you?[/quote:ce3d1d750e] I tell ya, more and more things are loose. I had this great pair of Dockers pants - kind of a deep greenish color. But they tore and were getting old and I had to throw them away. So a few months back I bought a new pair. I hadn't worn them though. I bought my normal size, which had a 44" waist (!). Today, I finally put on these new pair of pants. They are HUGE! While they don't quite fall off of me, after fastening the top, I can easily pull them down with virtually no effort. Several years back, I bought a large belt. I'm not sure why I bought one so big, as I had to use the last hole (the one furtherst in) on the belt. Maybe I felt better subconciously by buying this belt - I tricked my mind into thinking that if I have to use the tightest setting on the belt, then I'm not really fat. As time went on, I eventually gained so much weight that I had to go to the next hole. Recently though, I had to make a NEW hole on this belt, as the tightest setting no longer fit me! And, I'm maybe another 5-10 pounds away from making yet another new hole on it! This is true for my dog as well. His collar was SO loose that I had to tighten it. We are both still very large. People who remember my dog from years ago recall him as a thin pup. But those who've seen him lately see that he's lost weight. Same is true for me. I have some pictuers of me taken in August (when I started this diet) and then taken on Oct. 18th. There's about a 40 pound weight difference there and it really shows in the pictures. Of course, I still have another 40-60 pounds to go, but it's really nice knowing that I'm not this 300 pound man any more!
you should be so proud! 40 pounds is 4 bags of cat litter! i am so happy to hear of the great progress that you are making! and your little dog too! i'll bet your family will be surprised when they see you in the next few weeks, maybe they won't be able to recognize you.. :) ( i was wondering when you were going to update your sig.. 2 months slip by awfully quick, don't they?)
Great job!!! 40 lbs is definalty something to be proud of! Great job everyone!! I lost .8lbs this week, bringing me to 151.2 lbs!
I'm 4 lbs down, and I don't really know how I did it. I did exercise all of last week, skipped the weekend. I didn't follow any sort of plan for my eating, but I did make sure that I was aware of what and how much I was eating. This last week has just been so crazy around here. I have been going to my grandmother's every other day to give my mom a break on taking care of her and then on Saturday one of my cousins got married. The wedding was nice, but the cake was horrible!! (Thank goodness for that! ) Congrats to everyone who is reaching their goal!!!! Charity
I'm down 3 or 4 pounds (my scale bounces) of the 7 I set up as my goal. I'm half way there! I saw this yesterday when I weighed myself, but I didn't want to say anything in case the scale was lying. But it came back with the same results today, so I think I'm safe in assuming those pounds are gone! How is everyone else doing?
i hate when the scale lies. :) i'm down a couple of pounds. about 2. :)
Congrats to all that have lost!! Your doing wonderful! Keep it up! -Veronica
i actually already achieved the very small goal i made for myself earlier in the thread. i was at 306 and decided i would lose 10 by thanksgiving to get me to 296. that is done and i am at 292! this is great for me because i haven't weighed below 290 since 1997! this is a definite sticking point which i am almost through. i think i will lose some more before thanksgiving and i will post the results.
Way to go BigBoy!!!!!!
Congrats Bigboy! I started around the 305 mark (much to my amazement!) and I recommend you take some pictures of yourself now - both with your shirt on and off - to help motivate you. Once you drop down to 270 then the 250's, etc., you'll be amazed that you ever were 300! More importantly, you'll never want to see yourself look like that again. Keep up the good work!
Great job! You must be very proud of your accomplishment! Keep up the good work.
thanks. i definitely did take a picture at 310. that is the weight i have been drifting back to for years. my best friend went from 288 to 200 this year and the difference is incredible. any time he does something i am sure i can do it. when he quit smoking, i knew i could and did, etc. he definitely inspired me to get it done this time. i just want to buy a nice wardrobe at a lower weight so bad i can hardly wait.
Good job to everyone! I am on pace also so I may have good news soon!
i am at 289.50 now and i have been exercising consistently. and yes, being a "300 pounder" is not something i recommend for anyone. i now see myself in a ship sailing away from 300 pounder island. the further i distance myself, the less likely i am to return.
WTG! the 300 pound mark is gone for good! Just keep telling yourself that and youll definatly stay motivated! I lost 1 lb this week! After I thought I was going to have a 2+ lb gain! I am down to 150.2 Lbs! And .2 away from my end of november goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -Veronica
good job veronica. sounds like you will get it with only a few ounces left to lose :)
I SURVIVED!! This past weekend I went to a friend's house for a Thanksgiving get together. There were about 55 people there, and almost just as many dishes. I lost 5 pounds before I left (we had to drive 6 hours to get there) and didn't want to gain it all back in one foul swoop. But I did it! I weighed in this morning at the same weight as when I left. I didn't lose anything, but at least now I know I can make it through a feast without gaining!
Great job on maintaining lambchop!! I am down 2 more pounds bringing my total to 6. It isn't the 10 that I wanted...but it will do, for now anyway! Great job to everyone!!
That is great lambchop! Did you do anything special to help curb your appetite prior to or during your visit? Charity.. 2 pounds is still a loss in my book! Good Job! :D
Thanks everyone! Nope, I didn't really do anything different. I was actually really stuffed when the day was over... Two things I did do though: I ate before dinner. I didn't skip any meals so I wasn't binging from being overly hungry by the time dinner was served. I ate things I can only get on Thanksgiving. I skipped the things I eat on a more regular basis -- like peas. I'm not really on a diet. I'm seeing a couselor, so things are a bit different for me. Harder in some ways, but easier because I eat whatever I want. It's just about eating less. I made sure I really wanted something before I put it in my mouth. I'm so glad I didn't go overboard and gain back my precious 5 pounds!!!
Good job by everyone! Keep up the great work!
Fantastic job making it through your friends party!!!! That is great when you dont gain at those events! Everyone, your doing great!! Keep up the good work! -Veronica
Holiday parties are the best and the worst all rolled up in to one. Staying true to what motivates you is probably about the best thing you can do. It is great to hear that you have met the challenge and succeeded! Nice Job!
[quote:be7b01f696="doctoru2"]I'll join. I want my work scale to read in the mid-250's and my home scale firmly planted in the mid- to lower 230's.[/quote:be7b01f696] I wrote the above on Nov. 6th. Today, Nov. 25th, my work scale read 255.8 (I'm fully dressed on the work scale, so I guess I could take off a few pounds from that for clothes and shoes)! Yay! I'm officially in the mid-250's. My home scale (which is forgiving of ~20 pounds) has me bouncing between 233 and 237 (I weigh myself unclothed on my home scale). Years ago, I bought a large belt. I'm not sure why I bought one so large, but I kept it. I had to use it on the tightest setting (the hole furthest in). Perhaps subconciously I thought that if I'm using the tightest setting, that means I'm not really *that* fat. Aah.... the way we fool ourselves. Anyway, as time went on, I gained weight and went to the next setting. And, on rare occasions, I even went to the one after that! However, with my weight loss, not only did I progress back to the tightest setting, I had to make a new hole because the belt (and my pants) were too loose. Well, just this morning, I made yet ANOTHER new hole! And the belt still is just a hair too loose (but fits well). In other words, its' time to get a new belt! However, I think I'll hold on to this one for a while... It's nice when I have to make a new hole to keep my belt/pants on! So it looks like I met the goals I set above. Of course, I want to get further into those goals (like have my work scale read 253 or lower) by the end of the month. That will require a SMALL Thanksgiving feast. I think I can do it. :D
get a nice belt for your visit home! buying yourself something new to replace some "old" is never a bad idea. and your family will look up to you for looking sharp! :)
Way to go DoctorU2! The only thing better than achieving our goals is achieving our [b:e57672dd59]goals ahead of schedule[/b:e57672dd59]!
[quote:1108957f66="PixieChic"]get a nice belt for your visit home! buying yourself something new to replace some "old" is never a bad idea. and your family will look up to you for looking sharp! :)[/quote:1108957f66] Eh, trust me, my family won't care! LOL! Besides, of all clothing accessories and fashions, belts are pretty low on my list. Some guys may use belts for "attraction" but I use them just to hold up my pants. When I buy clothes, I tend to focus on shirts, pants, and jackets. Shoes just need to match, as does my belt. And given that I wear sweaters and shirts designed to go over my pants, often my belt isn't even seen! Still, I might have no choice but to get a new belt at this pace. :D
i guess i just like to shop! (i would buy a new belt anyway! :) ) it gives me confidence when i can cast an article of clothing that no longer fits right aside to make room for something that does! 8)
Yippee for you! Keep up the good losing everyone. DoctorU2 - I think you should put the new belt on your Christmas wish list and let someone who loves you buy it. AND it's no big deal if they get the wrong shade or style. (I'm always looking for gift suggestions for my hard to buy for brothers!) Jen
bigboy.. nice job! 300 has to be a mental sticking point for sure! are you noticing that you feel better at all?
Alright everyone! It is one day past thanksgiving, and tomarrow is the ending date for some of you.. (Me at least) Did you make your goal? COme close? Gain it all back on thanksgiving? -Veronica
Hi everyone, I hope you survived the Thanksgiving feast. My goal was to lose 7 pounds before the end of November. I have lost 5. I didn't completely meet my goal, but I'm proud of myself because I didn't gain any of that back through two weekends of feasting.
nice job lambchop and kirlaskia.. congrats to you both! 5 pounds is wonderful all things considered. the first of december is tomorrow so that means there is only about 4 weeks till the year 2004. i am making a commitment to lose as many of these pesky pounds prior to the ball being dropped. i know it is little more than just dicipline not to give into cravings, and get moving instead. i dragged out a (broken but still functional) step machine i have and used that for about 10 minutes yesterday and again this morning. also did a bit of weight lifting. today i'm going to do more. funny enough it makes me feel better afterwards, so i don't know why it isn't a habit already.. well enough of my rambling.. great job to both of you!
I ended up gaining, .6 put me at 150.8. BUT since I thought I was going to have a gain of 2-3 lbs I am happy I got there My end of nov goal was 150 lbs I sorta made it, I am at 150.8, but not 150 So I will halfway celebrate, I know next week I will be at 150 at least! -Veronica
congrats to you. i would round down if i were you! :) that means you did indeed meet your goal. success for you!

Anyone who weighs with decimals is too precise for me! LOL! So many things can influence a daily weight measurement. Let's say you ate some salty things this past weekend. If so, you'll retain more water and might even give the illusion of gaining a few pounds!! But it really is just water weight which your body will balance out in a few days. Plus, we have to remember that what we eat and drink has mass to it. So if we eat a bigger meal, it might take a few days to work itself all the way through. Until that time, our weight could be higher. If we drink tons of water (or any liquid) the same thing is true. If you drink 16 oz. of water, that's a pound. Until it is removed from your body, you just "gained" a pound. Hence why I'm not a fan of weighing too precisely. As far as I'm concerned you hit your goal! Congrats!!
Thanks for all the support!! I guess tomarrow, (monday) I will have to start another goal thing, maybe! hehe -Veronica
monday is here! time for some new goals!
