Starting today. Weigh 145-ish lbs. (140-145 lbs) Gotta fit into my costume. Have until December 13 to lose at least ten pounds. ~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~ Just got done running 5 miles per hour for five minutes. Yeah. I am almost dead. I hate running. I really really do!!! I only burned 36 calories. heh. ~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~ I need something fun to do. Something fun and active. I hate running so chances are, I wont do it. I have a series of tapes like Taebo. But, that takes forever to get into. You have to first do the intro tape and that's sooo boring. I have one tape of MTV's old Grind. I haven't tried that in a long time. And I have a Denise Austin tape. BORING!

Sounds like you need to liven up your routine a little bit. If you don't like your selection of workout tapes, maybe see if your local library has different exercise tapes available for check-out. If you find one that you really like then you can invest in it, (or put it on your list for Santa!) Nice to meet you :)

Exercise is always a tough area. I am convinced that most people do NOT like to work-out, even those who are really in-shape. I believe that in-shape people work-out for two reasons: (1) They feel great after the work-out (you get an adrenalin "high"); and (2) They *have* to work-out in order to keep their current appearance. So, we have to start thinking like they (the in-shape people) do. This is a lifestyle change and our old excuses about not exercising must come to an end. The trick, then, is to find a way NOT to give yourself an excuse. I abhor running - always have and always will. For some people, running is a great way to clear one's head. They get into a zone and just run. For me, it's torture. So I don't do it. And I recommend the same for you. Don't do something you hate! That's a sure way NOT to lose weight. I love walking though - and I don't even mind walking uphill. Going for walks at night, especially when it's snowing, is fantastic. So I take my dog and we walk. He gets exercise; I get exercise; he gets out of the house; it's all good. :D I try to walk for 2 miles 3x a week. Sometimes, like last week, I don't reach that goal. But I hope to do it this week. Regardless, I don't debase myself when I fail to walk as much as I hoped. I just acknowledge that some weeks are extra busy - then I recommit. I also like weight-lifting, if done on *my* terms. That is, I know what I want to do. I don't want a coach, I don't want a friend telling me what to do and when or how many. I've done the reading, I know what I want and how to do it. So I bought myself a BowFlex. I love it! I try to use that at least 3x a week as well, anywhere from 20-60 minutes (depends on how much time I have). I get my heart pumping and sweat is pouring. I love it! True, my muscles feel sore, but it's a "good" sore and I am starting to see results. In other words, I perform two exercises I don't find boring. Sure, sometimes I need to motivate myself - and usually I just reach down and grab the blob of flab around my waist! LOL! If that's not enough motivation, I try to come up with some excuse not to exercise - and I can't find one. That's key! I will also admit, sometimes during my routines, I want to quit. But I keep going and the further I go, the better I feel. I think to myself, what would I be doing if not working-out. Eating? Sleeping? Watching TV? Playing on the computer? Hardly a good use of my time and NOT a way to get in-shape. Therefore, I recommend finding an exercise you like. Maybe you'll like walking too. Maybe it'll be swimming or weight-lifting or stair-climbing or biking. Just find something you know you'll do. Then try to do this at least 3x a week for 20 minutes or more. Running for 5 minutes won't cut it. Good luck!
