This whole last week people have made special dinners for me full of all the things I can't eat and the worst part is they know I can't eat it. I have tried to be polite & just take a few bites & hide what I don't eat. I have reminded them I can't eat that type of food. Tonight's dinner has mashed potatoes & gravy, home made bread and fried chicken. I know if I go anywhere near the table it will be a feeding frenzy that a shark would be proud of. How can I get out of this without hurting anyone's feelings. They are trying to be helpful and I sure don't want to discourage that but I haven't lost any weight this week.

All I can say is WILLPOWER! Something I need to work on as well! Maybe bring a mouthwatering salad to the table, take the fried skin off of the chicken (I know that isn't any fun!). But maybe the sabotuers will see that you are very serious and that you have the willpower to stay clear of the other stuff and they will start aiding you in your journey! Good luck!! And remember that we are all here to help battle the sabotuers!!! Charity

Charity is right about that much, having willpower to succeed is what you need. Are your "sabateurs" aware that you are trying to lose weight? (I'm assuming that they are) It makes it a difficult situation, but one that you can overcome. As charity suggested, you could remove the skin or if your host is of the "accomodating" sort, you could suggest a boneless, skinless chicken breast? Maybe even bring a "healthy" dish to share? Sort of like potluck thing?

I understand how you feel. Just tell them that if they really cared about you your health and well-being would be what matters to them not their potatoes(those are the hardest to day no to) Be polite and gracious and eat what you can but be firm and let them know that you would like them to support you in your endeavor to be healthier.

another way to curb this "temptation" would be to eat prior to arriving at your friends or families house. Have a salad or tuna.. something that is light but fills you up. Once you've arrived, have some chicken, remove the skin, and pass on the potatoes. If you can keep your goals ever present in your thinking, you can do this. Abig glass of water is never a bad thing either! I always try to think if something is "counter to my goals" My goal being better health and fitness. If it's something counter to my goals, I try to pass..

Thanks for all the good ideas. I guess my problem is I'm worried about offending someone by not eating their food. I will just say no...OK no with a small wimper because I really do want to eat the lovely food.

I wouldn't worry about offending someone. If you are close to your hosts, maybe try pulling them aside and gently explain that you are changing your lifestyle, and that although the food that is being served looks and smells lovely, not to be offended if you don't eat a lot.. something like that. Any cordial host would certainly understand..

No one will be offended if you don't eat the food. Just be firm but gracious and everyone will respect you.
