Hey all. I'd like to try the Atkins diet (or something similar, low-carb whatever) since both my parents have done the Atkins and lost over 50 lbs apiece...the only catch is I just started college, I do have an apartment rather than a dorm, but I don't cook hardly at all and often just eat whatever comes to hand...for example, I've been living on pickles, oreos, and a loaf of banana nut bread for almost a week now. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to quit doing that? Or suggestions on how to actually cook things, in a real kitchen, that doesn't take very long? Thanks! Korin

here's an easy one: tuna fish salad. high in protein easy to make. steak is very easy to make. if you have a frying pan you should have no problem cooking up most meat which is high in protein. same applies for eggs, sausage, bacon, etc. all done in the pan.

Good idea! Thanks.

cheese is another one allowable on atkins. you can buy bags of cheese cubes. you can also get hard salami. you would have a meal of hard salami and cheese cubes. no bread though.

a mean steamer would be another nice addition, if you have the extra $$ you can cook veggies, chicken, fish.. you name it. The nice thing about it is you can cook without using extra oil, and cleanup is pretty easy. the one i have at home has a divider so you can cook 2 or 3 foods at the same time. nice to meet you BTW!

Something that I do for a quick lunch is chicken salad. Either broil some chicken or you can get the canned (I prefer Sweet Sue pouched chicken). Shred the chicken, add some mayo, add a few spices and chill. Eat it just like that or put it on some lettuce.
