Hi Lucifina :welcome I am a carbaholic too and addicted to diet dew. I'm doing the South Beach Diet which is a low carb and it's going great. Lost 15 lbs in 10 days. I don't agree the diet soda makes you hungry. It just gives me a boost of energy and doesn't affect my hunger at all. If your hungry all the time are you eating lots of fresh veggies to nibble on? Are you eating breakfast? Eating first thing in the morning has been very hard for me to do. I have changed it so I eat a cheese stick before I leave for work & then about 10 I heat up my scrambled eggs. That keeps me from getting hungry all morning & in the afternoon I will eat some raw veggies so I'm not so hungry for dinner. Good luck and let us know how your diet is going :)
I do try to eat breakfast but sometimes I am running late. I usually have cereal or fruit. Probably not the best for a carbo addict. I need to figure out what I can eat. Diet Coke is my only vice. I must have my vitamin DC  That is way cool that you lost that much! I hope I can do that too!
You can do it :!: Just figure out your diet and go for it :D
i actually did that diet in 1999 and lost about 30 pounds. i thought the reward meal was cool. eventually i gained it all back and more so you might say my results were mixed.
Wow BB that is a lot! How long did it take? Did you go heavy on the carbs again? Hey msslarson, How is WY? I think that has to be one of the most beautiful states. :D
Wy is a beautiful state. We don't have any snow on the ground now but have had lots in the mountains. The long cold winters make for some really big, fat people  but on the good side you can drive just a few miles and your completely alone. No noise, people or pollution. Ah, sweet serenity
I always wanted to move there but my husband said no way! He has arthritus so he really hates the cold. I love all the open space.
that sounds like a great place to live. what i wouldn't give to get away from people somedays!
Yeah, not to be anti-social but people can be over rated sometimes :? I would love to live far away from people and just go into town when I want to. Oh well this is the real world and I have to deal with people all day everyday. I just don't ever go out any more. I go to work and that is it. I guess I am depressed but I shouldnt be, I am on crazy pillz. I have to go out w/ my grandparents tonight for my moms b-day and I just know they are gonna make comments about my weight :( My grandpa is "perfect" so he doesn't like fat people. This is gonna suck!
Just a few comments... Lucinda: Sorry to hear your grandfather is so particular and apparently unsupporting. If he makes any comments on your weight - be strong. Tell him FIRMLY but CALMLY that you are on a diet/exercise regime now. You did not gain all of this weight in 2 months, so you can hardly expect you to lose it in that time. In the interim, you'd appreciate his support as you strive to achieve your goals. If your grandfather then starts babbling about things like how you became so heavy, etc., just repeat what you stated. Stick to your guns. Who knows - it might just impress him that you are finally telling him to essentially be quiet. As for diet soda... Diet soda in and of itself does NOT make you hungry. I drink diet soda a lot. The extra water in it helps (for days you just get tired of drinking water all day long). What hurts is the caffeine. Therefore, avoid all diet drinks with caffeine (regular Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, Diet Mountain Dew and even some Diet Root Beers). Drinking things like Fresca or most Diet Root Beers is great.

I dont know if I can give up pasta and bread. THe thing that sux is I had lost 30 lbs and I was starting to gain a bit so my dock told me to go on the meditreain(sp?) diet which is pasta, rice, bread and such so I was like coo and I totally gained it all back!!! 8O I don't think I coulf live w/out caffine... I have coffee all morning and diet coke all afternoon but I have been trying to ween my self off of it. I started drinking crystal lite. As far as my G'pa goes he use to call my mom fat when she was a teen and she was a size 2 at 16yrs old!!! She had to have a work uniform specially made for her! So he hasn't changed much. I don't take it to heart but some times it just gets old. I did stand up to him once when I was 13 and so not over weight and everyone freaked out cuz I actually stood up to him and no one had ever done that before, he gave me the silent treatment for a week! This, by the way happened on a vacation to FL to visit them and I shit you not, the moment we walked into the door he made me and my lil' sisters and mom get on the scale 8O what a freak! Sorry about all that I was just venting
ditto on what doc stated. be firm! another way to show your gramps that your serious about this would be (as horrible as this sounds) by ordering something healthy like broiled fish, chicken or salad. maybe even pass on the birthday cake or dessert.. good luck to you! and don't forget how "men" be it your grandpa or not, can be sometimes!! :D
:D Lucky for me we are having sushi!
Update! Sushi was tastee and the company was not but my G'pa was sooo busy nagging my sis about her new nose ring that he didn't even mention my weight
lucky you that your sis got to take the heat instead! did you talk to him at all about losing weight, or did you decide to skip it and just show him the new you?
I didn't say a word. He isn't really someone to talk to. Oh well hopefully next time I see him I will be lighter.
Just ignore people who put you down. What is the need to belittle people? None from what I can see. That's why I ignore them!
[b:eba6c94325]Lucifina:[/b:eba6c94325] From what you wrote, it sounds like your grandfather is an "abuser". He may not abuse people sexually or physically, but he does so mentally. He is controlling. He might not have had control in other areas of his life (like his job or $$) so he tries to control people. To tell your 16 year old mother, who was almost a size 1, that she was "fat" indicates to me that he is preying on people's self-conscious fears and reservations. A 16 year old girl wants to be perceived as "beautiful" - to hear her own father call her "fat" weakens her. And her father, in turn, was able to control her. In your case, while you do have some extra weight, his excessive criticism of you "not being perfect" follows the same trends. That is, you could drop to 110-120 pounds, have this fantastic knock-out figure, gorgeous skin and hair, be toned and muscular, have a great job, good home, wonderful significant other, etc. and your grandfather will STILL find something to criticize. No one around him will ever be as "perfect" as he is - or as he wants them to be. It's not an obtainable goal - you'll never satisfy him. But don't let HIS problem be your problem. These are HIS issues, not yours. Your grandfather clearly doesn't see what he's doing, or if he does, he doesn't care (or care to change). So be it. That's his psychosis. Just do what you think is healthy and sane. Don't let your grandfather or anyone else control you. Being overweight does weaken us emotionally - we feel unattractive... we feel insecure... we feel fat... we feel rejected. Trouble is, sometimes none of that is true. There are plenty of gorgeous women (and men) who are overweight (e.g., Queen Latifa, Kathy Najimi, Oprah Winfrey) who are also successful, respected and secure. Still, it's always a good thing to shed excess pounds. It will help our self-esteem, which in turn will help our outlook on life (the better we feel about ourselves in our mind, the better our body will respond). Also, by losing weight, we are truly helping our bodies. We might be able to stave off diabetes, heart conditions, joint pains, etc. So lose weight for yourself. Don't let your controlling grandfather deter you with his criticism. Do this for yourself! I know you can do it and you know you can do it. And, I'm betting your grandfather is almost *afraid* that you'll do it (he'd rather have you overweight so he can criticize you...). Good luck! :D
Thax doc! You are right on about my G'pa he is horribly rich and perfect. He was a VP of a world wide business and everyone in the fam gets criticized for something. Oh well. I did have a great weekend! I went to St. Louis for a vacation with my mom and sis. It was my mom's 50th b-day. I ate a lotta stuff I shouldn't have but I walked so much. I went to the art museum and the zoo and walked all over Union Station :D My legs are sore today but I am inspired to exercize more but I am gonna eat Za tonite so naughty me but tomorrow is monday andI can go from there :P
Hi there all, It's me again, Well so much for my Monday plan  I don't know what is wrong with me all I ate yesterday was cookies! All cookies, All day!!!! I am sooo mad at me. I am getting a really bad cold. I thought I felt like crap yesterday but today is much worse. I just want to breath out of both nostrils like a normal human being 8O ! I went to bed at 7pm and woke up at 10 til 8 this morning and that was only cuz my mister called me and the fon woke me up. I read my carb addict book last night before I fell asleep and I don't quite understand how the diet goes yet so all I ate for breakfast was cheeze but I am totally not hungry! which is a mini mirical cuz it is 1030am and by now I am usually ravenous. :D
i have had the same problem with cookies as you. and i don't just eat one or two but rather a ton!
 ermm, I ate a whole bak over the whole day!
