Maybe you see great looking models on TV or in magazines and maybe there are a few people at school who look fantastic, but the vast majority of the U.S. is FAR from perfect. Over 61% of U.S. adults are overweight. At your age, you really have to be careful about dieting. A recent study showed that teens who dieted actually put on MORE weight in the long run due to binge eating. My advice is that you actually just exercise more. Do NOT overexercise - this could cause problems too. Just cut back on junk food (chips, sweets, soda) and add more healthy food (fruit, vegetables, yogurt). Watch your fat intake. Skip hamburgers and fried chicken - get salads with low-fat or fat-free dressing instead. Try to remove caffeine from your diet (coffee, teas and soda). Drink more water. And then try to get some more exercise - not just aerobic either. See if you can add some weight training. You may or may not grow a lot more - but even if you remain at your current height, you may only need to tone as opposed to seriously dropping weight. By eating BETTER, you'll automatically decrease your calories. And by exercising just a bit more, you'll add muscle and burn more calories. In other words, don't do a lot - just little things. If you do some fad or starvation diet, I can almost guarantee you that you'll be heavier later on - and no one wants that. Good luck!

All you need is exercise. Just start working out and your arms will get in shape.

Honey, at your age you should concentrate on building your caracter. It's not everything to have a great body. Even people with great bodies can feel like crap... I think all said Body mind spirit is the way to go. Look at yourself in the mirror and find what you like and the rest will work itself out. For loosing on arms and legs.. Be energetic, play a sport, move a little and your metabolism will pick up and you'll loose it. Don't give up. Martial art are also a great way to loose weight, build self confidence and meet super interresting people. I weighed 145 pounds when I first joined a Tae Kwon Do class at 22 years old and I weighed just about 118 pounds after 1 year of doign it and maintained it as well. Trust me it is very intense and you learn interresting moves at the same time plus you are never alone. Unfortunately I gained alot of weight during my pregnancy and have to loose it all again and more but I will never give up on training as it also makes you happier. Good luck

I echo the others. Be yourself and be happy with yourself. What other people think of you is truly unimportant in the grand scheme of things.

Listen to what the others have said. I bet that it is more like that you need to get into shape than lose weight. Take it from me, I wasn't overweight as a teen, but my family insisted that I was. I played every kind of sport there was in my High School. I was 5'3" (still am that LOL), weighed 125 (would like to be there again!), but was still told that I couldn't afford to get fat. My family had me going to an all liquid diet, nutrasystems, weight watchers, etc. I can't blame all of my weight gain today on my family, but I can say that it really messed up my metabolism and my self-esteem. So please be careful. Just try exercise and tone up.
