Indeed - these are great treats. The only thing to watch is the sugar overload. Sometimes these frozen fruits, especially those for pie fillings, are packed in a high sugar syrup. For those on low-cal or low-carb diets, this wouldn't work well - unless you are able to truly limit yourself to just a spoonful or three. ;)
You can actually get them without any added sugar, they are called fresh frozen those are the ones I eat. I myself am doing a low sugar low calorie diet, and when I am not on the run (which is not often) that what I eat with meals. You are right though always avoid added sugar. I really believe more so than added fat, sugar will add the pounds. Even though I love candy, it is just a bad bad bad thing.
Or you can just take fresh fruit and throw them in the freezer. My favs are grapes, sliced strawberries, or sliced bananas. Talk about a tasty treat! And there's no need to worry about added sugar.
My grandma used to give me frozen blueberries that we had picked when I was little. It's now a comfort food for me, too.
thats a cool idea.. i wonder how fresh pineapple would taste? I have some at home, maybe I'll slice it up and give it a try!
Do sliced bananas turn black when you freeze them or do you put something on them first?
I've never let them stay in the freezer long enough to find out. Just slice, throw in one of those ziploc tupperware things. A few hours later, it's cold and creamy.
I am going to try these this weekend! Thanks for sharing.
Yummy! I'm going to give it a try :)
