Berries and bananas both work well for dehydration. They also make nice healthy snacks to take along with you
Every 'X'mas I dehydrated 100 lbs. of beef jerky to give out as gifts. It takes 3 lbs. of raw meat to make 1 lb. of jerky but oh so good. Find "rump roast" on sale. Usually $1.59 is a fair price. Slice it thin. I have a slicer from WalMart that was $24. Best investment I ever made. Sometimes the butcher will slice it for you but they never take the time to slice it thin enough for the way my family likes it. Marinate your meat slices for at least 8 hrs. in fridge using a big bowl with lid using 10oz. soy sauce, 4oz. liquid smoke, and 2 1/2 cups of water. I double that recipe in my big bowl and it works out fine. If someone wants it peppered I sprinkle a little cayenne pepper over the raw meat on trays before cooking. Be sure your meat is laid out flat on your trays and not overlapping or folded over. That's it. If you're using a dehydrator with the fan your jerky will be done in 3 to 5 hrs. depending on the thickness of your slices. If you do not have one with the fan you'll have to rotate your trays every couple of hrs. and your jerky will be done in 7 to 9 hrs. Put in freezer type zip locks. Be sure to refrigerate or freeze after cooking. I'm in the deep south and it never gets cold here so I suppose it depends on your humidy and weather. If you have any more questions let me know. Enjoy!!
I should have added that I also use my dehydrator to dry apples, bananas, pears, peaches, oranges. I soak them in a juice according to the book your dehydrator came with.
