Hi Kd, I don't drink coffee -- at all! I hate the stuff. So, I have no personal expierence to offer. However, I did find this article on IVillage, and I generally trust some stuff they have in way of advice. I used them a lot when I was training for my marathon. If you have ever read any of my posts, you know that I am on the Atkins diet. In the book I have he explains what caffeine does. What I'm about to put here is from page 164 of the Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution. [i:b414769fea]Stay out of the java jungle. Excessive caffeine (found not only in coffee but in tea, chocolate and many soft drinks) has been shown to cause a hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) reaction, which will provoke cravings and cause you to overeat. Omitting caffeine may be a big sacrifice for you, but, in my experience, weight loss often starts up again as soon as people remove aspartame and caffeine from their regimen. [/i:b414769fea] I, however, still have my morning cup of coffee. I drink decaf tea and Diet Rite (it is made with splenda (sucralose) and is sodium and caffeine free), BUT only after I have had my water!!!!!!!!! Well, I must say that i have my ONE cup of full caffeine pleasure before I drink my water!!!! Hope this helps a bit Charity
Thanks to you both. I have to admit that I find it really interesting that caffeine is such a no-no. I DO see the points given and obviously there are health risks that I never even began to associate with it, but I have always had a rather fond view of caffeine when considered with losing weight. Perhaps though it's because it's not a huge part of my diet, and not often used, still, I've always found that a good cup of coffee did wonders to curb my appetite rather than to increase it. Still, thank you. I think I'll have to look further into this one, and you've definitely given me "food for thought" as the saying goes. Luckily I'm not a die hard coffee drinker. Like you [b:dac1d787d0]Charity[/b:dac1d787d0] my one cup in the morning suits me fine, and I only tend to need that when my little one chooses to get me up earlier than my body wants to.
