Last night just before dinner I got real shaky & a little dizzy. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm assuming it's the diet since it's never happened before & went away after I ate. Does anyone know what it means or how to prevent it? Thanks

[b:bf8f0cce8a]Please [/b:bf8f0cce8a]make sure you check with a doctor if that is the case. It could be any number of things, a drop in your blood sugar, etc. Your doctor should be your first line of defense, since he knows your mediacl history..

i never had that happen but it doesnt sound good. definitely check with someone.

I called the doctors office & they said it's low blood sugar. Just needed to eat something.

sort of what i figured but i'm certainly no medical expert and don't want to dole any advice out on the internet. glad to hear you're feeling better.

Yep, classic signs of low blood sugar. Remember - no starvation diets! :) You may think you have lots of fat that your body can use for energy - and to an extent that is correct. But you still have to feed your body. I recommend eating several pieces of fruit a day. This will give your body plenty of sugar, but the healthy kind, to get you through the day. Also, perhaps space out your eating more. Instead of having three smaller meals for your calorie alotment each day, break them down. Have a bowl of cereal (about 220 calories) for breakfast. Then, a mid-morning banana (90 calories). Have your usual lunch (Lean Cuisine's are about 300 calories, with a piece of fruit or two makes the lunch about 450 calories). Have some pretzels in the afternoon (48 thin pretzel sticks are only 100 calories!). Then, have your usual dinner (whatever that is - estimate 300-500 calories). Total calories each day may be about 1100-1400, yet you will be able to keep your blood sugar at a nice level.

Doc sounds like he/she is giving you good advise if you were on a low fat/ low calorie diet but, since this post is in the low carb section you may not want to follow Doc's advise. Eating more may be the key though. Try some low carb snacks. Celery with cream cheese, hard cooked egg, some cheese, Atkins has snack bars out and depending on how many carbs you are allowing yourself how about some strawberries and whipped cream. I also got the shakes the first time I tried low carb. It's a hard diet to stick to but people that have say it's worth it!
