I have been looking for toning exercises on the net and found some at www.prevention.com . Go into the fitness section and they have several listed there. I have been some of them 3 times a week for the last month and let me tell you what....I have muscles appearing in places I didn't know muscles could be!! My husband squeezed my arm last night and asked what I had been doing!!!! Anyway, for those that are looking for some easy toning exercises, I just wanted to share. I really don't like the videos and such...for one, my kids make fun of how uncoordinated I am and there are only so many times that I can fall flat on my rear without embarassing myself (even if the only person that sees me fall is my 2 year old!!!). And my oldest son has started doing some of the upper body toning to increase his upper body strenght for football!!!!!!! Charity

Finding muscles that you forgot having is always a good thing! Adopting a program that you can stick to is probably the most important thing you can do to get yourself back into shape. It sounds as if you are on the right path! :D Finding some upper body exercises that your whole family can use is priceless!!

I've been exercising a "little". You really do forget that you have muscles until you start using them. Getting some "body awareness" is a great thing. Beats feeling life a shapeless blob all the time.

Eh... don't be embarrassed! What's the alternative? Being fat? I'm sure your kids/family might get a chuckle as you go through your work-out, but at the same time, I bet they are also impressed you are doing it and that you are working hard to lose extra weight. You are providing a great role model for your children - especially when you work through those embarrassing moments and prove to them that you can do it! Of course, I say this as a person who works-out in the privacy of my own home. Still, the awkwardness I had with a lot of the exercises I did 7 weeks ago are now fading. I know how to do them and what I need to do. They are still tough as anything, but at least I no longer have that lack of coordination. So keep with it - you'll get it. Also, since your son is working-out now, perhaps ask him to show you how to do some exercises. He might be more willing to help you do things properly than you think. And as I imagine he's getting work-out lessons from his coach and friends, he might have a lot of knowledge to share. Good luck!

Well, as for asking my son for advice, I'm not so sure! He is 9 years old and the team he plays for is through our local boys and girls club. Their team is more like the team on the movie 'Little Giants'. So we are learning together on this. I will say that he does provide the energy that I need to keep up though!!! If only we could bottle our kids energy!!!! Watching them warm up for practice is a comedy in itself. He plays tightend and can catch the ball when needed, but is needing to work on upper body strength. I don't want him doing any sort of exercise that might end up harming himself, but he is growing so darn fast. He is almost as tall as I am and I'm only 5'3!!! Sorry I tend to ramble on and on where my kids are concerned...can you tell I'm a proud mom?? LOL Anyway, thank you so much for the encouragement (Ouch, I think I hurt my brain using such a big word so early!) to keep going!!!!!

hello charity! have you ever practiced playing football with your son? that would be a nice thing to do that would help you both. i think as we grow older we tend to lose the "kid" in us.. having kids is a chance to be a kid again. we can fly kites and act goofy without others looking at us like we're weird :!: i think if i had a toddler, i would have to break down laughing myself if he/ she laughed at me! why don't have him/ her do it along with you.. it sounds like it could be great fun!!

The "Little Giants". I loved that movie!
