breakfast: 2 eggs - 4 sausage patties lunch: 2 hot dogs - no bread dinner: salad - chicken caesar/southern chicken...etc exercise: 30 minutes+ on the elliptical trainer.


How is it working out for you BigBoy?


working like a champ, hen. thanks for asking. it works very well for me since i am a creature of habit. i can dialup max and erma's on my way home. place my order for the salad. it satisfies me every time. i am compiling a list of "low calorie" foods. there really are a great number of them.


Sounds as if you are making a bit of headway on your Diet plan.. Have you cut out all bread, or just buns?


i pretty much have dumped the bread. atkins was right about that much. too many carbs are definitely the cause of much overweight. i had bread (fresh baked) when i went to a dinner on saturday, but the truth was, i feasted and didn't gain any weight i had surf and turf (steak and lobster), an inceber wedge salad, and home made bread. i was stuffed! the next day i noticed no increase in weight.


Not a real "complex" diet, but what more do you really need? If you cut more calories, you lose the weight faster. If you consume more, a bit slower, but this should work out well.


I doubt that a little Surf and turf will hurt. Seafood is known for being high in protein and low in calories, unless of course its drenched in butter. Salads are another excellent choice for dinner. They fill you up and don't contain a lot of calories and fat. Beware of the toppings though, because they can add fat and calories. :!:


yeah. lobster is no problem. (just pricey). even steak although high in fat is not all that bad for you. i am currently eating a salad for dinner 6 out 7 nights per week. there is enough variety in salad that you rarely have to have the same one every night. the breakfast and lunch could be lower cal, but they are from my short lived "low carb" days and they sort of get the job done.


I'm on a low-cal diet too, but vastly different from yours, BigBoy. Based on the foods I'm eating, I guess you'd call it a high-carb/low-fat diet. My carbs though are usually from things like cereal or fruits. I do eat buns and bread, but within reason. Once in a great while, like today, I'll treat myself to something sugary, but other than that, I'll avoid pure sugar carbs. Another treat I allow are baked chips/pretzels. Cereals are usually things like Total Raisin Bran or Cheerios. So far the diet is working for me... but if I reach a plateau, I may switch to a high protein diet and decrease the carbs. For now, I'm trying to avoid as much unnecessary fat as I can.


i've been sticking to the main idea of high protein for the simple reason of muscle building. since protein is credited with muscle building, i figured i would devote much of the diet to that. if i want to lose weight faster or break through a plateau, i will probably cut more of the fat and calories.


Sounds like a decent plan BigBoy. Back to the basics!


back to the basics for sure. lets face it: losing weight ain't rocket science.

It almost seems that people are really looking to over complicate what is a very simple process. Stop eating the foods that are making you fat. Eat foods with less fat and calories. Exercise more. The basics will always be the building blocks of good health.


no question about it. i am a simple man who needs a simple plan. lowering calories and burning more off appeals to my sense of reason. that helps with the motivation.

That's relatively accurate. But you need to add one thing: it takes commitment to lose weight. I think losing weight ends up being harder than people expect. It involves many months of consistent effort.


You aren't kidding BigAl! Its much easier to eat whatever you want as opposed to actually being very careful about what you consume! It's tough.


It also takes a strong commitment over a long period of time. I think weight loss takes a lot longer than people expect and they get frustrated.

It may take a very long time indeed. Generally weight loss is very subtle. If you lose 1 pound every 2 or three days it is an enormous amount of weight at the end of the year, but it will hardly seem as the scale is budging if you're weighing yourself daily. Most weight loss add up in months or years, not days or weeks.


as long as the chart goes "down", that should be important. If you are sticking to the principles of lower calories and some physical exercise you will move in the right direction!
