Hi - Does anyone here know anything about Ritchie Shoemaker's No-Amylose Diet? Was it successful for you? I was thinking of trying it since the Atkins Diet didn't work very well for me. I ordered his book "lose the Weight You Hate" but it hasn't arrived yet. Thanks. PAS

not familiar with that one, but i do have a question, what went wrong on Atkins diet for you?

Hi BigBoy, The problem I had with the Atkins Diet is that I could never get into ketosis without basically going down to zero carbs. I initially lost 6lbs the first week, then it was extremely slow after that...about 1/4 lb/wk. I got discouraged. PAS

Ketosis is supposed to occur at 20 grams of carbs daily. That is a tough figure to achieve. Even a banana has 27 grams in it. What have you ended up doing PAS?

Hi Pas! I am doing Atkins and so far, it seems to be working! Keep in the mind that for the first 2 weeks, you keep your NET CARBS under 20 grams. Here is the Atkins website to visit. It's very informative and gives a huge list of veggies you CAN eat and great reciepes too! www.atkins.com

Someone left that book at our office so I picked it up out of curiosity and it makes a lot of and so I have started avoiding the foods on the "no no list" and I have actually had better energy as long as I eat. After reviewing my kitchen and pantry, all we have in our house are the things on the "no no list" so no wonder I've gained weight that even with excercise and reduction of calories and stuff, I haven't lost but gained. I would love to keep up with you to see how you do? I haven't looked at the Atkins plan but I think it's similar to this one with no bread, no white flour pastas, no bananas etc.

Good luck to you on Atkins. A lot of restuarants are now even offering Atkins menu items, so you can go out to eat and follow your low carb diet. Let us know how it works out for you. ( :welcome to the forums BTW)
