Today (Sept. 12) has been exactly one month since I started my BowFlex diet/work-out routine. My first post, in the introductory forum, discusses what I'm doing in detail. To briefly recapitulate, I work-out on the BowFlex for about 45 min. 4x a week (which is a lot more than the BowFlex diet calls for - they want 20 min. 3x a week - but I'm also doing a bit of weight training too) and I try my hardest to eat between 1300-1500 calories a day. The diet is high carb (which contradicts most of the fads out there now), but allows no pure sugar (carbs from vegetables, fruit, wheats, etc. are fine) or caffiene. My dog has correspondingly been on the diet with me. Obviously, he can't work-out on the BowFlex  but I try to take him for walks about 3-4x a week. We go for around a mile walk, which has some good inclines, causing both of us to huff. Well, the one month point came and I had my dog weighed at the vet. He's dropped about 10 pounds! Woo Hoo! Then I weighed myself this morning. For the first time (in ages) since I've been on this diet, the scale gave a reading in the 250's (259). My scale bounces, and subsequent readings were 265 and 261. However, that 259 reading proves that I am indeed losing weight. I started with the scale bouncing between 280 and 285!! So I've lost at least around 20 pounds! Even better, when I flex my arms, I can actually see some biceps! I have biceps! WOW! And my dog can actually curl up on the couch again (he was too big to do that for the past year). We both have a LONG way to go. One look at my dog and you can easily see a lot of "pockets of fat" that need to disappear. And one look at this huge protusion in front of me (i.e., my gut) and the flab on my back and chest shows I have a long way to go too. But I am psyched. We are getting there! The vet was very happy to see my dog down about 10 pounds (he calls him his "success story") and the vet even said I'm looking better too (he said I'm making him look bad as he wants to lose weight too). I just hope Month Two is as successful! :D *edited to correct a few typos
that is excellent news. good to hear you dragged Fido into the weight loss too! its sounds like you're making real progress. the "belly" is probably the biggest problem i have. a big, pillowy thing of enormous proportions. so just keep pounding away and no doubt you will continue to have success. keep up the good work!
[b:f1293be3c0]cheers![/b:f1293be3c0] [i:f1293be3c0]**raising a glass of cold refreshing water to toast doc**[/i:f1293be3c0] that is some exciting news from you and for FIDO! keep up the good work, and month 2 could be even better than the first! keep us posted!
Fido! LOL! My dog's name is actually Alex (long story on how he got that name - don't ask! ). Yes, I'm happy. I still know I have a long way to go, but when my boss said I looked thinner, I knew then that it was starting to show. And, indeed, when I look in the mirror, while I still see this huge gut, it does look smaller than it did a month ago. I even had to *tighten* my belt! Yay! I'll keep you posted as I progress. Best of luck to everyone else!
It is always so nice to hear compliments! Keep up the good work, and sucess is assured!!
Congrats to you DoctorU2. You must be so proud of your accomplishment! Do you have a reward in mind for when you achieve your goals? :?:

You dragged up an old post of mine. ;) I'm now past the 3 month point. I work-out less than I did then, but seem to be getting better results. Perhaps because I'm more focused or I do more reps or because I just use more weight - but the muscle is continuing to come on. I try to work-out at least 2x during the workweek on the BowFlex (I aim for 3x, but sometimes only hit 1x!) for 30 minutes. Usually this is in the morning. Then on the weekends (at least 1x), I do a much longer 45-90 minute work-out. I continue to take my dog for walks 2-3x a week. Most importantly, with the exception of some Halloween candy, I've stayed true to my diet. My total weight loss now is around 47 pounds! Yay! This shows that I don't have to work-out like a maniac to continue to lose weight. In turn, this tells me that once I reach my ideal weight, I can maintain it by continuing my routine. As I continue in my weight loss, I may have to incorporate more exercise (I have an exercise bike that I haven't used in ages - but it's a great bike so I want to start using it soon) or change what I eat. But for now, it does appear things are progressing well.
how are things going for you in april doc? ..haven't saw you around in a while.. **frowns**
