Hi everyone, from Ontario, Canada. In past I have lost many pounds by way of walking for at least one hour a day. Has anyone experienced the same results? Also, I would love a walking buddy for evenings in the Ancaster/Hamilton area. Anyone interested? Thanks. [b]

hello sarah! i'm a big fan of walking myself. ""hoofin it" I like to say, but I find its more of a hobby than a workout for me. it doesn't seem to help me get in shape too much but it is fun. you definitely feel healthier after a nice walk!

I love walking but lately it's been getting cold and I live by the beach, how can I motivate myself to walk more often and avoid treadmills? I don't like walking in one place.

do you have an indoor track or mall anywhere close to your house? a lot of malls have "walking clubs" that you can join, i'm pretty sure it's free ;) a ymca may offer a covered track, but i'm pretty sure you would have to get a membership in order to use it.

Hi ! I'm new to the site and am so pleased to have found it! I'm a 'walker' too. I joined the local TOPS group in my neighborhood a couple of years ago, and I have a walking buddy. We do about 3 miles in an hour. Here in Northwest Indiana it gets pretty hard to walk this time of year. We just got about 5 inches of snow, and an inch of ice dumped on us today, and the temps are frigid. Not the best walking conditions! Having a walking buddy really helps though. I'm terrible about making excuses not to walk, but when my buddy comes to the door and says 'Let's go!' I usually grab my coat and gloves and go. There are also some walking tapes out there that are inexpensive and help you exercise the equivalent of a 3 mile walk. I use these on those days when it's simply impossible to walk outside. In the summer my friend and I will do 90 minute/5 mile walks. It's amazing how much healthier I feel since I've begun walking 5 or 6 days a week! :D
