Sweetie please don't be ashamed, I think everyone feels like you do once in a while. I know I would never go exercise because I thought people were staring at me, but then I woke up and saw that a lot of people out there were as big if not bigger than me! As for the surgery, please don't push it too much. Knee surgery is a big thing and it takes a long while to recover completely. Are you lifting weights? Perhaps you see no change on the scale because you are gaining muscle as well as losing fat. Don't forget to measure yourself, waist, thighs, hips, arms, and chest. Inches count too. Slow and steady does it, and over time you will achieve the results you so desperately want. If you need to talk just send me a message. We're all here for you. ~~~~~Geo
Today's a new day! I'm not in self pity mode too much now. I realize that where I want to be is a long way off and its going to take hard work to get there. I really appreciate your writing back to me. It means so much to know that there is a compansionate soul out there. I may whine and complain again and its good to know its ok. Thanks
Whining is natural! Just don't let the whining over come the results. You will do just fine!
Way to go! Do what you can now and keep in mind what geo said about the fat/ muscle ratio. :) Did you know that the mass of 1 pound of fat is 3 times the size of 1 pound of muscle? At the jazzercise class I attended they kept a "thing" (for lack of a better term) that was equal in size and mass to a pound of fat. It was creepy!!
i know exactly how you feel val. you put your heart into it and the results are slow or non existant. thats tough for all of us.
hang in there, we ALL have made days and can't control the way we eat. I have my good days and my bad days. Soem days I just wish I could stay in bed and not go out and face the world, but I can't. So grin and realize that only you can make yourself feel happy.
i have also had some trials while trying to loose weight and i always get discouraged when i step on to a scale and there is no change in the weight i am or worse it has gone up however i also realize now that exersise makes muscule and muscule weighs more than fat so sometimes even if my clothes are looser my weight is more, so i dont own a scale now because it just depressed me and i just go over to a friends house once a month and weigh myself i found that was alot less stressful on me
hi i understand how you feel but i was small one time and now ive gotten so big i dont like going around my friends and i feel like my husband looks at me with disgused and i really dont like lookin for close i know how it feels to just cry cause it seems so hopeless
nothing is hopeless. you just need to fight on!
hello big girl. welcome to you! don't feel helpless and don't cry. there are a lot of other people in this world feeling the same way you do, so you are not alone. know that every is new and you have a clean slate to work with every day. if you haven't already, start adding a walk to your daily routine, it will brighten your mood. try to eat healthy as much as you can..and don't let temporary obstacles hold you back! does your husband have any weight to lose? team up with him so that you both benefit from physical activity. hth.. pixie~ :D
Hey, the scale isn't the issue. worry about how you feel. If you have been working out, you could be losing fat and gaining muscle. But don't feel stupid, we are all here for a sort of common goal, right? I guess it isn't that easy, lol. Don't feel bad though, you can do it:)
What D wrote above is very important. Things like the BMI (body mass index) or a scale or whatever are just simple ways of monitoring your weight loss goals. You really need to examine EVERYTHING to see if your body is indeed changing. If you can measure inches (waist, chest, arms, thighs, etc.) do so. Are your clothes just a bit looser? Does that sweater fit just a bit better? Did you have to take your belt in just a bit? These tyings often provide better proof of your weight loss than a scale. Don't let that scale discourage you. For example, what if your scale indicated that you weighed 1 pound less? Would that elate you? If so, then give yourself that pound. :) Most scales aren't that horrible precise anyway, so I bet you did lose at least a pound. But as D wrote, there's a good chance you also increased your muscle mass - and that will add weight. But this is a GOOD thing. You WANT muscle mass. Muscle mass is what helps your metabolism burn more fat and calories. Muscle mass is what makes you look tone. Muscle mass is what helps prevent your skin from sagging (due to weight loss or age). Women who work-out at least 3x a week using weights (and I'm not talking about doing 12 reps of 150 pound bench presses - I mean doing as much weight as they can at least 8 repetitions) and eat 1000-1300 calories a day (and drinking at least a gallon of ice cold water), will lose an average of 15-20 pounds of fat, while gaining about 3 pounds of muscle over 6 weeks. That's right - after 6 weeks. You've been on this diet for only a week. So give your body time to adjust to your new caloric intake and increased work-outs. Your scale might just surprise you next week with a huge 5 pound drop! Good luck! And do NOT be discouraged - you are doing everything right. Every person react differently to diet/exercise in terms of how fast he/she will lose weight. But you WILL see results - just keep at it! *edited typo
Geo and Doc are absolutely right! Hang in there, everything is going to be okay! Keep in mind that the muscle you are building will also help to burn fat! Yes, the more muscle that you have on those bones of yours will help speed up your metabolic rate and help you BURN FAT. My personal opinion, as well: if you're friends aren't going to be your friends because you gain weight, then they aren't friends. PS: This is coming from a fellow fat person. *lol*
