I been on a diet for about 2 1/2 months and I've lost somewhere around 35 pounds, I'm down to 287 im 6'3'' I begin eating about 2500-2800 calories a day than it was 1900-2300-and now it is 1200-1500. Is that a healthy amount of calories?


yes, 1200-1500 is a min healthy amount of calories; it's usually the minimum amount recommended for healthy weight loss. from your height though...are you male? and are you active? if so, you may not want to go as low as 1200, at least not for a long period of time; i'd stick at around 1500. but otherwise, 1200-1500 is just fine :)

Actually 1500 calories is probably not enough for a 6’3” 287 lb person, especially if you are 17yrs old. Current weight, body build and activity level should be taken into consideration when determining calorie counts. One size diet plan does not fit all! Is it possible for you to get a hold of “Weight Watchers” information? It is a great low calorie plan. It explains exactly how much you should be eating for your size. If you can't, let me know I'll try to find my info for you. But a 35 lb loss in teriffic! congrats!


Hi Slimdown, Got out my old Weight Watchers stuff and it says for a person over 250 lb they need to eat between 28 and 35 points which equals out to approximately 1900 to 2400 calories daily. So you were right on target. Don't drop any lower in calories because your weight loss may come to a grinding halt. To few calories are just as bad as too many. Once you get your weight lower then 250 you can lowering your calorie intake (26-33 points approximately 1750 to 2200 calories). This is all from the Weight Watchers plan, which most Doctors agree is a pretty good calorie reduction plan. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work.


Sometimes it very's for example today i only ate 950 calories, im 285 now SlimDown's Day - Today Breakfast -2 cups cereal 1/2 cup of milk -300 calories Lunch -HotDog -Granola Bar -320 calories EXCERCISE 1 hour of basketball Dinner -Grilled Chicken Sandwich -330 calories I usually drink 300-500 calories in pop but didnt today. it just varies, the longer i go on my diet the less hungry I am all the time.


Where's the fruits and vegetables and more milk? That is not very healthy for a 17 year old. Cut the pop - wasted calories with no nutritional value.


Definitely. Kill the pop in favor of calories for vegetables.


I have gave up pop. I will have about one diet pop a day. I drink more water and juices, and gatorade now. Gatorade really helps fuel me before and after exercise. I'm really starting to feel comfortable and happy with the way I look. At 330 I wore 2 or 3 shirts just to play basketball in now I just wear just a tank top and one cut off shirt. Im began to eat more fruits and veggys. I heard about the 24oz of milk thing and will probably try it out. Im currently down to 277 pounds with my goal being 225 pounds and I usually eat about 1000 to 1500 calories a day. On a bad day Ill eat about 2000-2300. Since I cut out the pop and stop eating cheese and processed foods, I've really noticed a spark in my weight loss.


i really like this site, it has a calculator and also will give you an idea of how many servings of what you should have in day for the number of cals you plan on consuming. you ever think about going lower carb, for someone your size the weight would come off quickly. i did that but now i have to be low cal too because i need to now watch my cals as i don't need as many

:roll: hey slimdown,,,, look everyone i think hes my bro,lol cuz am 17 to and in the same range....anywayz i use to be 303!!!!! 8O YES now am 230 :) its ok i look different and ppl/family say's i lost wight but NO!!!,lol to me am still fat am 6'3 to slim, i need to be 170-180 thats my idle weight :oops: :cry: ,,,,,, i've been on the low-carb it worked for sum months,lol then i statred to know i was just losin' 2 pounds a week :cry: so i said HELL AM OUT,,, so i went on the soup diet i was 250 when i went on the soup diet i was 227 but u know a week of eating messes up EVERYTHING,LOL so yeah........ am gonna be on the negative diet,,, if am 210 by halloween then am ok :lol: 8) look slim do like what i do<<<after this is over u could EAT WHATEVER!!!yes i know u thinkin' uhhhh o yea and get it all back NO!!!!! just try to play basket-ball twice a day man...... like i do, tho i jog, hey look i was 303 JOGGIN' so dont give me that awwww it hurts thing , yes it hurts but thats why u keep doing it, u'l get use to it :wink: now when i finish jogging i dont even drink water like i use to :D and breathe to ur nose ok it helps :wink:

I am a little worried though that you think losing 2lbs a week is too little. 2lbs is actually what the doctors will say is safe. I think that you might make yourself ill if you try to lose 20 lbs by halloween.
