i'm jealous! my "chest" has been the first to shrink! :x thank you for your input. i've never tried the south beach diet. are the meal plans easy to prepare and tasty?
What's the basics of the diet? Not going to make buy another book are you?
:P :P I am a new convert to the South Beach Diet and so far I'm impressed I have finished day three and have lost weight already. I'm encouraged by your 20lb loss so far. I would recommend anyone to try it and it's well worth buying another book as it works.
what diet did you convert off of? i need a plan that is easy to follow with good easy recipes. thanks in advance. :D pixie~ :D
I have tried a few plans before going on the South Beach Diet. Weightwatchers, picture perfect weight loss, and slimmers world in the u.k. which is much similiar to weightwatchers. I always felt hungry on other plans which contributed greatly to giving in and what I like about this one is that you never feel hungry. Phase one is the strictest part of the diet and certain foods are off limits but you begin to reintroduce them after phase one which lasts 2 weeks. Non fat milk is allowed during the diet to answer your milk question. You eat normal portions of meat, chicken, turkey, fish and shellfish along with vegetables, eggs, cheese and nuts. You eat three balanced meals a day along with two snacks, You are told not to go hungry. Its not just another diet book its also a book about health and wellbeing.
 Well, I just heard about it on DATELINE. I am interested. So far I haven't heard anything bad. So I guess I'll by the Book and give it a try.
8O Hi, I'm a newbie with a question re: southbeach. I was on the LA weight loss diet and lost around 40 lbs. As soon as I went off started gaining again, up 10 pounds. Am interested in a diet that isn't just a diet but a way of getting healthy. Southbeach sounds like a healthy lifestyle change, which is what I need. Is it better to buy the book or to go to the website and start the program first? I have been shopping around for diets and don't want to waste any more money than I need to.
Can anyone tell me how to get to the official South Beach Diet. website I tried and get Diet Profile which want you to pay 34.95 for 6 weeks and then6.95 a month . I am just starting this diet, getting ready to pick up the book. :(
Go to prevention.com and look up the south beach diet, it will give you the basics to see if it is for you.
For the ladies on the diet and losing are you following the recipes in the book or are you following the principles and doing your own thing? I am a student and school starts next week so I don't see myself eating at home and cooking all the food for the next 2 weeks! Any suggestions? CP
I have been on the SBD for almost 5 days, eating like it for 4 whole days and I have lost 6.5 pounds! I follow the principals of the diet. I don't use all the recipes very much, only when I can. HTH
I'm a little late coming in on this, I found an article from CBS where they were highlighting The SouthBeach Diet Just thought I'd pass this along for anyone who cares to read!
I find the claim about "losing belly fat first" to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. And that is in a lifetime of hearing many ridiculous things :) How exactly can a diet make you "lose belly fat first"? Most things I've ever read about weight loss assert that the claim of "spot reduction" is absurd. That statement right there, which is also printed on the cover of the book, sends up a red flag to me concerning the validity of this approach.
 I am giddy! I have lost 14.5 pounds since September 02! I haven't gained anything back since the inital loss and am slowly keeping on losing. As far as the belly fat thing, I don't know if it is true or not but I have lost a lot in my stomach as a skirt that I used to wear is falling off of me now. But since I didn't measure myself first I don't know.... I am finding this diet easy to follow.
I purchased the SBD book & started on Oct 1. I've lost over 15 lbs so far. My carb cravings are finally getting better. And my belly fat is the first thing that is going. In every other diet I've tried I always get flat chested first so I can't explain this but I love it. I haven't used any meals from the book but would recommend everyone reads the book. It helped me understand why the more I starved myself the fatter I got. Most of my office has been on the diet and everyone has lost weight. As for gaining all the weight back after the diet that depends on if they go back to their bad eating habits. Of course if you go back to eating the way you did before the diet you will get fat again. The people who have done the best at maintaining their weight weigh in each week & if they gained 5 lbs they just start phase 1 again & the weight comes right off. The interesting thing now is they are learning what food will cause the weight gain & how to balance that days diet so it doesn't. I won't say that 6 months from now I will still like this diet but for now it's working very well and I feel I'm learning how to manage my eating to keep the weight off. Good luck to all you starting your diets and a big Congratulations for all the big losers :)
Thanks for the info, misslarson.
I am on this diet too, starting today, adn going to the Gym 4 days a week. I have tried ATkins, Curves, and they worked but obviously couldnt stay on them...I think this will help along with exercise. I will let you guys know in a few weeks or so. I have always failed, and have at least 120 to lose...I am 273 right now, and only 26 years old...I have heard good things about this diet...so here I go!
Good luck to you Deb. Sounds like people have been having some good success with this one.
I've been on this diet since October but I keep cheating and starting over, but I've been good for the past three days and I'm already losing weight. I avoid milk, sugar, fruits and have just beef/chicken and vegetables. I don't go by the recipes but I decided to go with that and I'm doing well! My old jeans fit already! The Restaurant Ruby Tuesdays now have Low carbs menu so that's great! They even have the mashed cauliflower recipe from the South Beach Diet! Love that! :D
I am in my first week on South Beach and have a question about beans (legumes). The book says beans are okay in Phase I but does that refer to green beans only? Can I or can I not have black, kidney, etc. beans in Phase I? :?
I started SBD yesterday, and today I am already light-headed and craving ANYTHING sweet. I did not realise how much baked stuff I snacked on. I am in Germany and have limited access to many of the recommendations and meal ingredients. I have MANY questions. I read the introductory and background info in the book 2x, but I still have questions. For instance, what about Sugar-free gum? Is it okay to eat that? I bought some Splenda only to find out it is O-cal, not 0-sugar -- should I stop using that? Any subs for light Laughing Cow Cheese? I started counting my points and cutting back on carbs a few months ago, but I have had many guest from US and having been able to manage my lust for food to stick to my plan of NO CARBS AFTER 4 PM!!! Oh well. Good luck to everyone else...I am a bit worried about my prospects for being successful...

Try to hang on through phase one. But in general LENTILS are a better choice.
[quote:b80b998413]Good luck to everyone else...I am a bit worried about my prospects for being successful...[/quote:b80b998413] that is the thing about any diet. if it is something you aren't able to follow (no matter if its because you can't find foods, can't go without carbs, whatever the case may be) it won't be something that you will be able to stick to for for life. if you can't follow it for life, the weight lost, may very well come right back..
Is anyone on the online version? I was wondering if they thought it was worth it. Sound like a good plan, is it portion controlled?
I am new here so bear with me. I have started the South Beach Diet, think it's premise is amazing, and am excited about it. Here is my problem. I lost 4 pounds the first 3 days and haven't lost a ponud since. I am on day 11, follow it religiously, and am getting depressed. Anyone else having this problem? I have only 10 pounds more to lose, and am a weight watchers regular. Any advice would help. Thanks Robin
sounds as if you are following all of the principles of dieting. how are things going for you?
